Description
The museum will close just in time for the auction. We recommend visiting until then. For more information, visit Saab Memorial Hall.
In this auction, there are several cars that we couldn't remove from the premises. To do so, one of the walls must be demolished. This will be done at the museum's closure, so buyers can collect their cars. Please note that these vehicles have been off the road for an extended period. This means that additional work may be required to get them in order compared to similar models that have been continuously driven.
About the car:
These police vehicles were custom-built on direct orders from the then National Police Board (Rikspolisstyrelsen). They were powerful and had excellent driving characteristics. They were particularly appreciated by traffic police when extra speed was needed to complete their tasks. Expect high wear due to their intended use.
The car was inspected and approved when it was added to the collection in 2018. It was driven regularly before the police livery was applied and the car was placed in the museum. It is said to have functioned normally at that time. It has been off the road since then and requires a review and inspection before it can be examined by the Swedish Transport Agency.
The police text and the small national coat of arms must be covered when driving on public roads; permission can be requested from the police authority to use the text.
The siren and blue light were removed when the police decommissioned the Saab. According to the Swedish Transport Agency, the car has had 14 previous owners, including the police, car dealers, and the museum. The car comes with an instruction manual, police vehicle supplement, and service book.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
Equipped with a 2.3L turbo engine producing 220 hp and an automatic transmission. The car was started and driven only a short distance for the photography session. The engine sounded good and was very easy to start. It had been in the exhibition since 2018 when we installed a battery and turned the key (see the video). There is surface rust on the brake discs. We have not tested all the functions of the car. It is missing a start battery.
-
Interior condition
The car shows signs of use but the interior is in unusually good condition considering it served as a police vehicle. It features extra door pockets that were only installed on emergency vehicles. The luggage compartment is in good condition. The electrical system for the previous additional equipment in the back seat seems to be intact. See the pictures.
-
Exterior condition
Shows signs of previous service use. There is a crack in the windshield, scratches, some dents, and paint chipping. There is also rust around the rear wheel arches and more. See the pictures. The underside was difficult to inspect but shows visible surface rust. The tow bar is missing.
-
General condition
Saab-built police car that served, was decommissioned, and had new livery applied when added to the collection. Wear and tear appears normal considering its intensive use and age.
