"A Saab in vibrant yellow is quite striking. This is a great project car. It will require a brake inspection and a review of service needs. It should be relatively easy to start with some basic effort. It was driven into the museum in 2016."

Description

Bilweb Auctions has been entrusted with selling the cars from the collection at Saab Memorial Hall, Sweden's most charming small Saab museum. It was started by Norwegian Tron Bach, who moved to Sweden in 2011. After a busy life as a hotel owner, Tron relocated to a small farm in Gullsjö, Vännäs. When he found a worn and dented Saab 92 behind a shed, the idea took shape. He decided to start a Saab museum to honor the Swedish automotive heritage of Saab, a car admired worldwide. Over the years the museum has been open, more than 1,000 visitors have come to the small Norrland town to see the Saab Museum. Tron feels that with age, it is now time to close his museum on a high note.

The museum will close in time for the auction. Until then, we recommend a visit. For more information, visit Saab Memorial Hall.

At this auction, several cars could not be removed from the premises. To do so, one of the walls must be demolished. This will be done at the closing so buyers can collect their cars.

About the Car:
This Saab 99 was added to the collection in 2016. The car seems to have been used in the northern parts of the country since new. It has had 7 previous owners, including car dealers. The odometer reads 159,310 kilometers, which appears accurate according to the accompanying inspection reports.

A neighbor of Saab Memorial Hall owned the car. It had been stored in a barn for 10 years before the museum acquired it. Some dry fuel lines were replaced, and the car was started up before being driven to the museum.

The car comes with the owner's manual, older inspection reports, and a spare wheel.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Four-cylinder carbureted engine with 2 liters and an output of 100 hp. Five-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive. Last driven in 2016 when it was driven to the museum under its own power. We conducted a brief start attempt and found that the car needs servicing and old fuel replacement before another start attempt is made.

The car was last inspected by the Swedish Vehicle Inspection (Bilprovning) in 2007. At that time, it received several remarks according to the attached report. See the photo. It has been off the road since then. No technical functions have been tested by BWA. The car is missing a start battery. The brakes are engaged.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is in good condition with only minor wear. There is some sagging in the headliner. See the pictures. Equipped with the original tachometer and a speedometer calibrated up to 200 km/h.

  • Exterior condition:

Original paint that looked quite good in the museum's dim light. We were unable to move the car. There is a dent on the hood, some surface rust, and a few minor imperfections on the body. Equipped with stylish Italian-made aluminum wheels. It was difficult to inspect the underside of the car. The cargo area floor is in very good condition. See the pictures.

  • General condition:

Popular model year of the Saab 99 with a five-speed gearbox. A great entry-level model for the Saab enthusiast looking for a classic car to restore.

Owner's comment

I managed to purchase the car from my good neighbor, Johan Karl Evert. I asked him about it several times, as it had been sitting in his barn for many years. Eventually, he probably thought I was being a bit persistent. After some consideration, he agreed to sell it to me. We went there, rolled it out of the barn, and since it had been sitting there for 10 years, we replaced the fuel lines and various other parts. After that, it was just a matter of starting it up and driving it. Since then, it has been stored in the museum since 2016.
