"Road-ready Amazon in Grand Turismo specification. Driven only 4,000 km since its restoration in 2012. Perfect for the collector who wants both style and drivability."

Description

The car is being sold on behalf of an estate in Luleå. The previous owner was a car collector, and his family has shared that this was his favorite vehicle—driven every summer thanks to its combination of good looks and reliability.

Reportedly, the car was originally delivered new in the Osby area and was taken off the road already in 1976. It was later removed from the vehicle registry due to unpaid registration fees. Around 2009, a man living in Farsta bought the car and began a full restoration. He has shared that he completely stripped the body and mounted it on a rotisserie. The entire body was then sandblasted, and the car was restored piece by piece. According to the restorer, the project took three years, and the engine, gearbox, and rear axle are original—matching numbers.

Once the restoration was completed in 2012, the car was re-registered. According to the restorer, the odometer has rolled over once, and the true mileage should therefore be approximately 163,083 km. While this cannot be guaranteed, it seems reasonable considering the car was decommissioned after only nine years of use. What we do know is that the car has been driven every summer since 2012, after being acquired by the now-deceased owner. The odometer currently shows 4,060 km driven since the restoration.

A loose diagonal spare tire is included and needs to be mounted on the spare rim. A jack, warning triangle, and a 123GT supplemental owner’s manual are also included.

Facts about the model

When Volvo introduced the Amazon 123 GT in 1967, it was aimed at those who wanted a practical car with a sporty edge. The new GT was based on the two-door Amazon. The gearbox was the same four-speed with overdrive that had previously been available as an option on the Amazon Sport. From 1967 onward, the overdrive option was removed from the Amazon Sport and reserved exclusively for the 123 GT.

The 123 GT came equipped with dual fender-mounted mirrors, Hella fog and driving lights, beauty rings, a dashboard-mounted tachometer, three-spoke sport steering wheel, radial tires, high-tone horn, chrome seat hinge covers, and lighting in both the engine bay and trunk.

The 123 GT was without a doubt the most expensive Amazon. In 1967, when the most basic “Favorit” model with a three-speed gearbox cost 15,300 SEK, a 123 GT would set you back a full 18,800 SEK.
