"When the model was introduced, it was affordable, comfortable, and practical for two people. There was plenty of room for weekend luggage, sports gear, and hunting equipment. This bike has been used and enjoyed by its owners. While there are some details that could use attention, overall it’s in a pleasant and usable condition."

Description

This vehicle was registered for road use on July 5, 1985. The current owner acquired it on March 10, 2022. He is a Porsche enthusiast with several vehicles in his garage. Last year, it received a service that included an oil and filter change, as well as a timing belt replacement.

The odometer reads 49,070 km, but a review of inspection records shows a total mileage of 249,070 km. The first owners clearly enjoyed driving it, clocking around 210,000 km up until 1996. Since then, it appears to have been used as an enthusiast’s car, adding just under 40,000 km.

Included is a binder with some historical documentation, various receipts and inspection reports, as well as the owner’s manual and service booklet. Two sets of keys. Inspected and road-ready.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Starts easily and the engine runs smoothly and calmly. During a test drive through a residential area and on a main road, everything appeared to function as it should. Steering, handling, clutch, gearbox, brakes, and other systems are all working well. In good condition considering its age and mileage.

Not inspected on a lift, but the visible vital components appeared to be in good shape.

  • Interior condition:

Interior is in good original condition with normal wear from use. The seats offer nice comfort, and the upholstery, door panels, and trim are in good shape. There’s a small repair on the passenger seat. Steering wheel, controls, instruments, and gauges are all in good condition. All electrical functions are working, including the tilt function of the sunroof. The panel can be manually removed—though the current owner has never done so, everything appears to be in proper order.

  • Exterior condition:

The paintwork appears to be original with normal wear from use. There are some stone chips, a dent, and minor scratches. Glass, trim, emblems, and lighting components are in good, usable condition. The mid-line trim piece in front of the right front wheel is missing. Good wheels with good tires. Engine bay and luggage compartment are in solid condition.

  • General condition:

This was the entry-level model to the Porsche lineup and a car with sporting ambitions. A comfortable and pleasant ride from the late ’70s/early ’80s, it’s a user-friendly classic and enthusiast’s vehicle.

Owner's comment

– Space got a bit tight in the garage after a Boxster was acquired, so this charming driver’s car is now ready to bring joy to a new owner.

Facts about the model

The Porsche 924 broke away from many of the brand’s traditional hallmarks. It featured a front-mounted, water-cooled engine, coil springs on the front axle, and a transaxle layout. The model was developed by Porsche in collaboration with Volkswagen/Audi and was originally intended to become Audi’s flagship sports car. Porsche was responsible for designing not only the body and interior, but also the chassis and drivetrain. The only requirement from VW/Audi was that the drivetrain had to accommodate the existing two-liter engine from the Audi 100 and Volkswagen LT. However, in the wake of the oil crisis, VW/Audi got cold feet and sold the entire project to Porsche.

The 924 quickly gained a reputation as a well-balanced driver’s car. Automotive journalists praised it as the most manageable Porsche ever to come out of the factory. With good aerodynamics, near-perfect 50/50 weight distribution, a five-speed gearbox with a very short throw, and a 125 hp four-cylinder engine, the 924 delivered a sporty driving experience—enhanced by its low seating position and relatively light weight.

A Turbo version was introduced for the 1978 model year, and in 1986 the 924S arrived with a new engine developed by Porsche.

The model was produced from 1976 to 1988, with a total of 152,082 units built.
