"A clear choice for those who want to participate in historic rallying with a Saab two-stroke."

Description

The car was purchased in 1998 as a restoration project after spending many years stored in a barn outside Sala. Despite this, it had managed to avoid major rust damage. However, it had suffered from rat damage and had been painted with red paint during the barn's painting process. The intention was to build a solid and authentic Saab Sport for classic rallying according to the applicable regulations.

Between 1999 and 2000, the owner and his friend, a professional panel beater, renovated the Saab Sport. The car was dismantled, blasted, and rust repaired. It received new body panels, different doors, and more. All necessary and approved body reinforcements, welding of reinforcements for seats, belts, and roll cage, as well as a new complete safety cage and safety tank, were installed.

Grinding, puttying, priming, and final painting in white, both inside and outside, were carried out by the panel beater. Other parts were cleaned, blasted, renovated, painted, or replaced. A new dashboard with instruments, a new exhaust temperature gauge, various buttons for fuel pump, extra lights, and original cable harnesses were installed. Later, a modern Speed Pilot Terratrip was mounted. The Saab also received door panels covered in carbon fiber foil, all four side windows in polycarbonate plastic, and new rubber seals.

Front springs from the Saab V4 were slightly shortened, original rear springs also slightly shortened, Bilstein shock absorbers, and the engine and gearbox were modified according to all the rules of the art.

After that, it was actively competed in the Classic Rally Cup with good results and the Midnight Sun Rally for several years, but never destroyed. Always with thorough maintenance before and after each race and continuously updated. In 2015, many parts were renovated or replaced with new ones, including the Saab Sport engine XP approximately 80–85 hp, gearbox 7:38 spec 1, racing brakes, lightweight wheel bearings, shock absorbers Bilstein/Sellholm, nylon bushings, radiator, seat belts, steering wheel, and more. The Saab Sport has only participated in one race since 2015.

Eight approved aluminum wheels with good Avon rally tires, including two brand new ones, plus two original steel wheels with good Avon tires, come with the car.

A fully equipped App-K rally car where everything works, fine and neat, a winning car in the right hands. The latest Appendix K inspection and approval were on 2014-10-18.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The Saab runs well in both the engine and gearbox departments. Always meticulously maintained before and after each race and continuously updated. During the latest maintenance work in 2015, many parts were renovated or replaced with new ones, including the Saab Sport engine XP approximately 80–85 hp, gearbox 7:38 spec 1, racing brakes, lightweight wheel bearings, shock absorbers Bilstein/Sellholm, nylon bushings, radiator, seat belts, steering wheel, and more.

  • Interior condition:

Fully equipped and ready to start a rally. Complete seats and nice seat belts.

  • Exterior condition:

The Saab participated in a rally in 2015. Since then, it has mostly been stationary in its warm garage. The body is straight and in good condition. There are cracks in the rear light on the left side. It looks like an old rally Saab should.

  • General condition:

A historical rally car in very good condition. Better than most other rally cars I've seen.

Facts about the model

One of the great merits of the 96 was that it helped establish Saab in the public consciousness as a successful manufacturer of nearly unbeatable racing cars. Even though rallying at the time was much more innocent (and nowhere near as lucrative as it is today), Saab's numerous successes meant that the small Swedish cars were as revered and feared on the tracks as today's four-wheel-drive monster cars. SAAB's successes were so many and so significant during the 96 era that it's impossible to even cover the most essential. Among the most remarkable were Erik Carlsson's victories in the Monte Carlo Rally in 1962 and 1963, as well as his successes in the RAC Rally, where he won three times in a row.
