"For many, the little Fiat is the essence of Italian diminutive and cool anti-hero vehicle. An 850 is more modern in its design, but also more affordable and accessible compared to its highly valued predecessors."

"For many, the little Fiat is the essence of Italian diminutive and cool anti-hero vehicle. An 850 is more modern in its design, but also more affordable and accessible compared to its highly valued predecessors."

Description

It was delivered to its first owner in July 1969, and it's possible that the owner placed the classic Dymotext under the instrument panel on the far right, or perhaps it was done later. The National Archives have the answer for those who seek it. In any case, the car made a trip to Norrland and eastern central Sweden, including a visit to Formula 3 champion Leif Lindström, who also competed with a Dallara-built Fiat X 1/9. In 2021, it ended up with the current owner, who purchased the car in unanimous agreement with their better half, but now the garage is to become a furniture workshop and the little Fiat is set to embark on new adventures.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

It starts easily but prefers some support with the choke and hand throttle until operating temperature is reached. It sounds and runs lively with upgraded breathing in the form of carburetors, exhaust manifolds, and exhaust system. A small spare parts package is included, including a starter motor, generator, and brake and ignition components.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is clean and neat, and very red. The image of the headliner has a pink tone, but it's merely a reflection of the red interior. The ceiling is light gray, completely intact and in good condition. Furthermore, the carpets are fresh, and the door panels are made of the same material as the seats. Everything is topped off with an original sporty wooden steering wheel.

  • Exterior condition:

Attractive and cheerful on the outside. It has been repainted in the original color at some point, and later improved around the rear window frame, probably during a repair of the same. There are a few small rust holes in the spare wheel well. It has looked the same for several years; the owner has chosen not to repair the damage as they function well as drainage holes. Older tires with good tread.

  • General condition:

In representative condition and fun in its small size. Nicely sport-tuned for an even more enjoyable appearance and character.

Facts about the model

The Fiat 850 was manufactured between 1964 and 1972. It was an evolution of its predecessor, the 600, retaining the rear-engine concept but with a larger engine and more spacious body. The car came in two versions: the 850 Normale with 34 horsepower and the 850 Super with 37 horsepower. In February 1968, the 850 Special was introduced with the more powerful coupe engine and front disc brakes. The model was also manufactured under license by Seat in Spain. Additionally, coupe and convertible models were produced, the latter known as the Spider. Today, they are all popular, easy-to-maintain, and affordable collector's cars.
