"A typical build of its time and in good condition."

Description

This is one of the first approved vehicles according to the new regulations for "Modified vehicle" that were established in January 1982. Originally, it was a 1969 VW 1500 that was converted to a Beach Buggy during the winter of 1982/83 and was approved as a "Modified vehicle" in April 1983. The conversion followed the Wheels magazine's project build of a buggy that consisted of a 40 cm shortened VW floor pan and a plastic buggy body. Virtually all buggy parts were supplied by the accessory company Comfort Racing. The current owner, who built the buggy in 1982/83, used the car very little during the first years after the conversion. Between 1994 and 2017, the buggy was largely unregistered and stored in a dry and cool garage. Between 2018 and 2022, the buggy has been thoroughly reviewed with a complete brake overhaul, new tires, a new exhaust system, and engine service. The engine service has been performed by a professional car workshop. The car was inspected in 2018 and is therefore exempt from inspection. The buggy is also approved by MHRF for enthusiast insurance and therefore has a fire extinguisher and battery switch.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The buggy runs well in the engine and driveline, starts easily, and the gearbox and clutch are working properly. In 2022, the 1500 engine was overhauled and the entire ignition and fuel systems were checked. The car has been serviced with new oil in the engine and gearbox, and a new battery has been installed.

The brake system has also been checked and the buggy has new drums and wheel cylinders at the rear, renovated brake calipers at the front, a renovated master cylinder, new brake hoses, and some new brake lines.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is complete and stylish with a black vinyl-covered roll bar. It has black needle felt carpeting and a wooden trunk for storing drinks, food, and other luggage. The trunk can be easily detached.

  • Exterior condition:

The plastic body has a good finish with no major stone chips or damage, only marks from normal use. Newly painted Whitespoke wheels (6 inches front, 8 inches rear) with new tires. The bottom plate is clean with good paint. A red/white canvas top, sewn by a professional seamstress following a model borrowed from Comfort Racing, is included. The rear window is a replica of the oval rear window on 1950s VW cars.

  • General condition:

A professionally built beach buggy with low mileage. The owner/builder hasn't used it much and hopes that the buggy finds a new owner who can appreciate a well-built and well-maintained representative of the beach buggy era. This buggy is built to be used, and it's time for it to hit the road.
