"A fine work vehicle that exudes history in every detail. Ready for the roads and all of this summer's car gatherings."

Description

A well-restored Starke in every detail of the body. As for the engine, there is no information about any restoration, but it runs very smoothly and evenly. The vehicle was originally sold to the Kalmar City Sanitation Department on October 27, 1965. From what we can gather, the truck was re-registered in 2018, suggesting it may have previously been removed from the register. The current owner purchased the vehicle in 2022. There have been three registered owners, as far as we can determine. Both the exterior and interior are in excellent working condition.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

All functions are in order. The engine sounds great, as does the gearbox. It still feels very solid overall. The tires and rims are in good condition. The bed is covered with a large number of milk bottles from days gone by. The most recent inspection was done on 2018-06-28.

  • Interior condition:

In great condition overall inside. The upholstery was likely redone during the restoration. The driver's seat is made of a wool-like material, though we're not sure if that was original. All functions are working properly, with the exception of the fuel gauge.

  • Exterior condition:

Very well done. The paintwork has held up excellently. The exact time it was done is unclear, but everything is painted, including the underside, in the vehicle’s original color. From what we can see, it appears to be free from rust.

  • General condition:

The Starke is in very representative condition and is fully roadworthy.

Facts about the model

In the 1950s, Volvo's international expansion gained momentum, with models such as the Volvo Titan being sold outside of Sweden. In 1965, the F88 became Volvo's new large truck model, followed by the F89 five years later, which also enjoyed international sales success.

Alongside the Brage model, Volvo introduced the diesel version, the L375 Starke, with a payload of 4.5 tons. In 1955, the simpler L365 was introduced, with a payload of 3.5 tons, but it was discontinued the following year. The Starke soon had its non-synchronized gearbox replaced with a more modern five-speed transmission.

In 1961, the vehicle was renamed to L465 Starke.
