"Good mechanical feedback and a pleasant driving experience. Without brake servo assistance, you need to press a bit harder, but it's easy to modulate the pressure once you're used to it."

Description

It was first registered for road use in Sweden in May 1966 and has had relatively few owners over the years. At some point, the car spent time in Småland and appears to have been off the road for over 23 years until its most recent inspection on March 26, 2002. It was then de-registered again when the current owner purchased it in 2004, intending to complete a restoration—though that took a few years to get underway.

Today, it has a period-style sporty look, with 14" wheels and the absence of bumpers and some trim pieces. However, all those parts are included, along with a large package of spare parts.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine and gearbox with overdrive pull nicely, and the car has a pleasant sound. It’s currently fitted with an accessory muffler from an Amazon, but a new original-style muffler is included in the spare parts package. The brake servo is currently disconnected as it needs refurbishment—a rebuild kit is included. Additionally, the carburetors have been overhauled, and new shock absorbers and springs have been installed, along with new brake lines and hoses.

  • Interior condition:

The front seats have been newly upholstered in English leather by S-Klädsel in Färgelanda, while the rear seat remains original, paired with a new carpet set. The door panels and headliner appear untouched and in good condition. The original rubber mat in the luggage compartment is a nice detail—likely a bit brittle with age, but still intact. No spare wheel, wheel holder, or jack is included.

  • Exterior condition:

Whether it’s stance, looks, or a vintage sport-style build—the owner has definitely had some fun, fitting wider black 14" Ford Mustang wheels and removing the bumpers to suit his own taste. Aside from one (1) original wheel, all parts and accessories needed to return the car to its original appearance are included.

The body was restored and repainted in the early 2000s. The paintwork is in good condition, finished in the original color, Pearl White. The trim holes remain on the right front fender, while the replacement left fender has not been drilled. The rocker panel seams don’t exactly match the factory look but appear neat and well done.

The Amazon muffler was chosen because the original twin pipes would stick out too far without the rear bumper, which, by the way, has been spray-painted black over good chrome—so the paint can easily be removed.

  • General condition:

Fun and charming, with great flexibility and potential—whether you're aiming for a clean, original look or something a bit more wild and personalized in appearance.

Facts about the model

When Volvo assessed the quality and partnership with Jensen Motors (who built the first series of the car) in 1961, a task group was assembled in the fall of that year due to well-founded concerns that warranted bringing production in-house. After a few turbulent years, that decision was realized, and from 1963 onward, production was moved to Sweden. At that point, the model designation changed from having a "P" prefix to an "S" suffix—thus becoming the 1800S instead of the P1800. However, in everyday language, the car is still often referred to as the P1800, even though only the Jensen-built cars are officially named that.
