Description

This is a Swedish-sold MG Midget MkII from 1965 – a highly desirable model produced only between 1964 and 1966. The MkII is popular among enthusiasts thanks to its classic features: chrome bumpers, wire wheels, MGA-style seats, and other charming chrome details.

Under the bonnet is a lively 1100cc engine with twin SU carburetors, delivering a tight, nimble driving experience that’s perfect for summer drives and car shows.

The current owner purchased the car in 2015 after it had undergone a full professional renovation by a well-known MG enthusiast. The car still presents beautifully today and has been carefully maintained. It's stored in a warm garage and only driven 50–100 km per year to local car shows and family outings.

Renovating a MkII Midget to this standard requires both expertise and a significant investment, often costing 100,000–150,000 SEK. This turn-key example offers great value for money and is ready for its next owner to enjoy without any immediate needs.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car starts easily with full choke, and after a few minutes of warming up, the engine runs smoothly and reliably. The gearbox feels tight and precise, the brakes are solid, and the handling is sharp and nimble, with no unwanted noises or issues. Everything functions as it should. It sits on attractive wire wheels with good tires, and both the engine bay and boot are exceptionally clean and well cared for. Please note, no spare wheel is included. The car is inspection-exempt forever and ready to drive home.

  • Interior condition:

Interior still feels freshly renovated. The seats have been reupholstered, the carpet mats are in excellent condition and properly fitted, and the door cards are clean and tidy. The dashboard and gauges are also in good condition, with everything presenting well. The rev counter functions up to around 3,500 rpm, after which it becomes slightly slow to respond accurately. Included with the car are a striking red hardtop, a clip-on convertible roof with frame, and a clip-on tonneau cover – all in good condition.

  • Exterior condition:

Bodywork is straight and undamaged, with no signs of rust or issues – and the same goes for the underbody, which is in excellent condition. The paintwork is bright and glossy throughout, showing no defects, and all the chrome trim is gleaming and free from blemishes. It’s truly a great-looking car, ready to impress at any show or gathering.

  • General condition:

This really is a wonderful car for anyone looking for something fun to drive, easy to own, and straightforward to maintain. At 180 cm tall, I can get in and out with ease – it’s a surprisingly comfortable fit. The car is ready for its next owner to enjoy from day one.

Facts about the model

MG Midget MkII was produced between 1964 and 1966 and represented a significant evolution of MG’s small sports car. It retained the charming, minimalist spirit of the original Midget while introducing several key improvements. Most notably, the MkII featured a stronger, slightly longer body shell, external door handles with locks, wind-up windows, and a curved glass windscreen with a more modern frame – making it more practical for everyday use.

Under the bonnet, the MkII was powered by a lively 1,098cc A-series engine with twin SU carburetors, delivering spirited performance in a lightweight package. The gearbox received synchromesh on all forward gears, improving drivability. With its nimble handling, classic chrome trim, and wire wheel options, the MkII quickly became a favorite among driving enthusiasts.

Today, the MG Midget MkII remains a desirable model thanks to its blend of classic 1960s styling, simplicity, and improved usability over the earlier MkI.
