Description
Mikkel Kristian Pedersen was the man responsible for putting the MKP caravan on the road. Pedersen was originally a bodybuilder and founded the company M.K. Pedersen in Kolding, Denmark in 1923.
However, it was not until the late 1950s that the classic MKP caravan was born. This little beauty, recognizable for its round aerodynamic shape, has become a beloved model among caravan collectors around the world.
MKP caravans were built on a galvanized chassis with a fiberglass body, unlike most other caravans of the time, which were made of metal. As a buyer, you could customize your MKP caravan to fit your specific needs and tastes. Since MKP caravans were well-insulated, they were perfect for cold winters and hot summers and, thanks to their round shape and low air resistance, had good fuel efficiency properties. You could also get your MKP caravan with double-glazed windows.
Between 1959 and 1988, it is said that about 14,500 MKP caravans were built. Many of these were of course bought in Denmark, but a large number were exported to other countries such as Greenland, Sweden, Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the USA, England, and France. They were also manufactured under license in Japan.
