"Sunroof and Stage II engine make this a very unusual car."

Description

Imported in 1979 and repainted roughly 30 years ago. The original color was a kind of gold metallic that was unique to the Riviera. All inspection papers and records from 1990 forward are available. The car has only traveled a little more than 5000 kilometers since then.

With a unique feature like a sunroof, this was a feature that never really caught on in the United States. However, the company ASC - American Sunroof Company - built both sunroofs and convertible tops to order. There is just one 1968 Riviera known to have this feature!

The car has a center console and separate seats, and it appears to have primarily GS equipment level, although it is questionable if this is a real GS. You could order the car with many configurations.
A peculiar scenario is that some of the car's components, such as interior features, rear bumpers, and hubcaps, are from the 1969 model.
So, too, is the engine, which is a very unusual machine: a 430 "Stage II." This option was introduced in 1969, and the engine is from the same year.

By all accounts, these 69 features appear to have been on and in the car since new or almost new - why this is the case is unknown, but everything is in good condition and does not detract from the overall impression of the car.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The first thing you notice about the engine is the "430 Stage 2" decals on the valve covers. From the factory, you could order the car with Stage 1 - which meant a little more power. This option was most commonly available on the GS400 engine and was less frequent on the 430 engine. The following stage was Stage 2. The dealer handled the details upon request. As a result, confirming the authenticity is frequently challenging. Full-flow manifolds, numbers, and some details suggest that this is a genuine Stage engine, however the degree to which this is true is difficult to tell. The engine is a 1969 model, and it was also the year that the Stage 2 option was introduced. It's impossible to tell if this is done from the start or after?. There is no "vbuild sheet" in the car that can explain this.

In terms of operation, the engine is quiet, peaceful, and well-balanced. The gearbox shifts smoothly. There is an original AM radio, but there are wires concealed beneath the center console that allow you to temporarily connect another stereo and speakers. The owner has ensured that everything that has been serviced and repaired has been done with only original details. The clock and antenna aren't working. The concealed headlights' mechanism is jammed.

  • Interior condition:

The original upholstery and carpet are in fair shape, however the driver's seat and headliner have some damage. The owner would rather keep the original details than switch to a new one. Are there cracks in the vinyl on the armrests? The door handle on the inside is partly from a 1969 model. Overall, the interior is in good / original condition.

  • Exterior condition:

Repainted just over 30 years ago and the red metallic paint has done well. There are some small blisters at the tailgate, probably due to a bit of carelessness in the sub-work. There are some small attacks in the corners of doors and some improvement. Overall nice, moldings and glossy parts as well. Chrome and moldings for bumpers have a natural patina. Rear bumper of 1969 model, hubcaps as well - and these are in very good condition. Boxes original and a bit scratched. The sunroof and its mechanism are nice and work easily. The car has received "Swedish" mudguards. NOS details from an old GM Nordic residual warehouse. It comes with new and some new rubber trims in the correct design.

  • General condition:

A wonderful car with an older repaint that has served it well. Very decent condition, and may be incredibly great with some reconditioning and minor repairs. A car that is comfortable to drive and has enough power when needed.
