"It's a good car that's enjoyable to drive. Has participated in a number of rallies (see decals on the inside of the hoods). It will be presentable again after a service and refurbishment."

Description

The car was purchased new in the summer of 1965 and was used as a private car in the Orebro area for nearly 15 years. In the early 1980s, it was professionally rebuilt into a FiA-approved historic rally car. The car competed extensively between 1986 and 1995, including the Rally Globe and the 1000-lake rally in Finland. It doesn't appear to have suffered major damage, and the engine and gearbox appear to be in good working order, but they've undoubtedly been replaced or renovated several times. It is now slightly more tuned than the original version, which works well and feels good to drive with. The car is well-positioned on the road and brakes effectively, but some pressure is lost during hard braking (must be reviewed). Rough tires have been mounted. All of the paint, body, and chassis appear to be in good condition. Surface rust and blistering are present. The car is dirty both inside and out. After a thorough cleaning and some paint enhancements, it will look great. It had its most recent approved inspection/MOT on 2017-05-04, so it must be checked in again before it is approved indefinitely. Car that is enjoyable to drive and has a nice engine sound.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The battery failed after three years of sitting unused, but it can be jump started and then runs very well, despite the fact that we suspect the carburetors need to be adjusted. Mathias Fahlke (tel: 0761-022063), a VW expert, started and drove the car. Prior to the auction, he is happy to answer questions over the phone.

  • Interior condition

Interior is worn and needs to be cleaned. Rally car in normal condition.

  • Exterior condition

20 years ago, it was repainted from blue to white. A little hastily done, but adequate for a rally car. There are some minor blemishes and dents, but nothing major. It appears to be in good condition. When the meter reaches 10,000 km, we estimate it has traveled 16,750 km. Interior is worn and needs to be cleaned. Rally car in normal condition.

  • General condition

A good car that works well as both a summer road car and for historic rallies. However, the FiA documents are now out of date and must be updated.

Facts about the model
