Description

Imported to Sweden in 2012 from Beverly Hills, Los Angeles. There it was always garaged and never suffered with rust. Type 181 can be said to be the modern successor to the more famous Kübelwagen jeep that was manufactured in the 1940s. Type 181 became very popular in California in the early 70's and was perfect for driving on the beach for surfers.

This car is in great condition with only 32000 miles – 51,000 km. In 2012 it was fitted with new 1600 cc engine with dual Weber carburetor. At the same time, it was modified tough w Centerline type wheels, wide tire and big bumper (costing 75,000kr). Its is also fitted with a CD stereo and extra light.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

    Brand new 1600 engine with dual carburetor and python exhaust. Only been driven 2000 km with the new engine.

  • Interior condition

    GT steering wheel and bucket sports seats shows some wear and tear.

  • Exterior condition

    Rust free car. Wings have been paint, and some other touch ups. Nice roof, wider Centerline wheels and rear mirrors from Jeep Wrangler.

  • General condition

    With the new power engine its pleasure to drive. A Type 181 in good condition and has a tougher appearance.

Facts about the model

The Volkswagen Type 181 is a two-wheel drive, four-door, convertible, manufactured and marketed by Volkswagen from 1968 to 1983. Originally developed for the West German Army, the Type 181 was also sold to the public, as the Kurierwagen in West Germany, the Trekker (RHD Type 182) in the United Kingdom, the Thing in the United States (1973–74), the Safari in Mexico and South America, and Pescaccia in Italy. Civilian sales ended after model year 1980.
