Description

The car came back to Sweden 2012. Has rolled in sunny San Diego and the owner was an active member of Volvo Club America. Then equipped new with beige leather, tinted windows and automatic gear. Completely original, both inside and outside. Mostly original lacquer. The tailgate and any more part repainted but in the right color why it is not visible. Very nice leather interior in original. Tires and rims in good condition and the car goes very nicely on the road. Nice to drive with Volvo's finest engine from that time, with the injection and 160 hp as original.

Facts about the model

Volvo had a long and strong tradition of manufacturing cylinder large cars until the 1950 century. When the new 140 series was presented, it was already planned to refine and renew the concept. Design manager Jan Wilsgaard had long played with the idea that luxury to the shapes and brand, with the new 160 series was time ripe. The competition came mainly from Mercedes, BMW and Opel but also from the Americans and some British car brands. It was given that both the design language as a technique needed to be sharpened compared to the 140 series and when Volvo 164 was shown was also very much specialized for richer and more power seeking Volvo customers. The wheelbase was slightly lengthened because the straight longitudinal B30 petrol needed more space in the front. The B30 engine was an "extended" variant of the durable B20. Dual SU carburetors and large cylinder volume gave the effect 130 horsepower. Of course the design was reinforced with a completely new front with its double round light on each side, the magnificent Volvo grill and more chrome details. The decor followed up the theme with leather, automatic gearbox and luxury equipment such as air conditioning.
Volvo 164 became hugely popular in the United States and when Volvo announced that the model would be closed in anticipation of the new V6-provided 264 even increased sales!
The redesigned B30E engine with injection yielded a total of 160 horsepower and with the modifications that the 140/160 series underwent during the 1970, in terms of increased safety, comfort and performance, the Volvo connoisseurs believes that Volvo 164 E is one of the absolute foremost Volvo classic cars of all time.
