Description

This car was originally sold in the USA, with the last recorded service being an AC job carried out by Import Motors in Oakland, California, in 2007. It was later imported to Sweden and first registered here in 2009, remaining with its Swedish owner until purchased by the current owner in 2014.

Unfortunately, no paperwork is available to verify its earlier history, and due to illness the owner cannot provide further details. One reassuring point is that he was an avid Mercedes collector who always sought out the best examples, particularly cars with solid bodywork—which is certainly the case with this one.

The car appears to have undergone an older renovation and repaint, either in Sweden or the USA, and still presents in very fine condition today. The bodywork is solid throughout, with no rust issues or damage. It was last properly driven in 2022 and has since been stored in the owner’s garage. Recent work has included a new fuel pump, though we recommend a routine service. Otherwise, the car drives well. The mileage cannot be verified, but it is likely around 113,000 km.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

We have recently reviewed the car and carried out work including a new fuel pump, new spark plugs, and idle adjustment, at a cost of over 20,000 SEK. The car now starts easily, with a smooth and healthy-sounding engine. It drives well, with a nicely shifting gearbox, solid brakes, and a very stable feel on the road, offering plenty of power under the bonnet. The gear selector does require adjustment, as it does not align perfectly with the shift pattern.

The engine bay is clean, tidy, and well maintained. The boot space is also neat and complete with spare wheel and jack. The retrofitted air conditioning is not currently functional, most likely due to low refrigerant. It sits on attractive wheels with good older tires. The car is inspected and ready to drive home.

  • Interior condition:

interior is neat and tidy, retaining all its original features. The seats are in good condition overall, with some peeling vinyl along the seams of both seats and a small tear on the driver’s seat (see pictures), which can be repaired. Door cards, carpets, dashboard pad, and wood trim are all in good condition. The electric switches on the driver’s door are non-functional, but the windows operate manually with winders.

The dashboard and gauges are in great condition, with the oil gauge showing good pressure while driving. The fuel gauge may not be fully accurate. The steering wheel is undamaged, and a period Becker Monza radio is fitted and working.

  • Exterior condition:

The car presents beautifully, with straight bodywork, well-fitting panels, nicely shutting doors, and no rust. The underbody is solid and well kept, showing no damage or signs of repair—helped by its years in the dry California climate. The paintwork is bright and shiny, with no issues to note and hardly even a stone chip. Chrome trim and detailing are equally impressive, clean and undamaged.

The folding roof fits well with no damage, and the car also comes with a factory black hardtop, which is in a good condition with a nice headliner. The only remark is that the top panel of the engine bay has been painted in a blue-grey colour for unknown reasons (see picture), though there is no rust or damage in this area.

  • General condition:

A super attractive and well-kept car, finished in the rare and elegant Arabian Grey—a colour that’s not easy to find. If it were mine, I would simply repair the small seat damage and then enjoy it as is, perfect for stylish open-top driving.
