"The owner recently inherited the car from his father, who purchased it in 2006. The car has been serviced and maintained by his father but will need a minor review, including cleaning and adjusting the carburetor. It runs and drives fine, starting up with a quick spray of starting fluid, and has a good gearshift and brakes. The car is inspection-exempt forever."

Description

This car was originally sold in Sweden and has had 12 registered owners. The current owner inherited it after his father, who recently passed away. It was his father's pride and joy since purchasing it in 2006, and it was regularly used every summer, with service and review done each season. The car has some rust blisters around the lower panels and sills, but a new set of replacement sills is included, along with a good, older replacement exhaust back box. The carburetor will need cleaning and adjusting, as the car is a bit hard to start without starting fluid, but otherwise, it runs and drives fine.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The car runs and drives fine, with the engine performing well once warmed up. It has easy gearshifts, good brakes, and stable road handling. As mentioned, it needs a review of the carburetor and a simple service. It's inspection-exempt and ready to drive home.

  • Interior condition

Interior is complete and in good condition, with a small loose stitch on the top side of the driver’s seat. New carpets have been fitted, and the door cards, mats, and headliner are all in good shape. The dashboard and gauges are undamaged and fully functional, with aftermarket speakers installed in the rear.

  • Exterior condition

The car presents itself well, but upon closer inspection, you'll notice rust bubbles around the lower sills, rear edges of the valance, and a few bubbles on the doors (see pictures). The underbody is clean and tidy, with some older welding on the floor and exhaust. The paint is clean, though it has been repainted at some point, with some touch-ups and marks in places. The chrome work and trim are bright and clean.

  • General condition

This fun and cool-looking car is arguably one of the best-designed Opels ever made. With a simple review and service, you can enjoy driving it for many years while addressing the rust and cosmetic issues over time.

Facts about the model

The Opel GT was produced in its first series from 1968 to 1973. The car’s design originated from a study conducted in 1965 and was heavily inspired by the Chevrolet Corvette model developed around the same time (1967). Approximately 100,000 units were built, and today it is considered one of Opel’s most beautiful models. Its elegant lines and forms may not be fully captured in photos, so we recommend checking online for a better view of its design and details. Few examples remain today.
