"A well-maintained original car with only 5 owners."

Description

This is a very late-produced Citroën 2CV. Despite this, there are more similarities than differences with its ancestors from the 1950s. It has a two-cylinder boxer engine of 602cc that produces 29 horsepower. This, even though a direct translation of 2CV means 'two horses' in French. However, in this case, the name derives from the fact that it had the equivalent of two French tax horsepower. The power is more than sufficient for this lightweight car, which, with its soft suspension, leans alarmingly for someone unfamiliar with driving a 2CV. For the initiated, this is a major part of the charm of these vehicles. The suspension also comfortably absorbs the road's imperfections. A 'sleeping policeman', a Swedish term for speed bump, would likely have to stand up for it to noticeably affect this French car. This model is also designed for outdoor enthusiasts who can easily navigate rough roads. There are several ways to open up and experience the sights and scents of nature. For instance, you can roll back the roof all the way to the tailgate's attachment.

This model series is known for its driving pleasure and simplicity. The equipment is minimal. It's outfitted with features like a 12-volt outlet for phone charging and an additional cooling coil on the fuel line to prevent vapor lock since modern gasoline, with its high alcohol content, is so volatile and can easily evaporate at high temperatures.

Facts about the model

Pierre Boulanger had designed prototypes for a lightweight car just before World War II. The idea was to create the simplest car possible so that poor farmers could afford to get one to transport their goods to the markets and be able to perform service themselves with basic tools. By the standards of the time, the Citroën 2CV was a spacious, comfortable, and very fuel-efficient car with good accessibility and reliability. Everything else was de-prioritized. The engineering level was extremely high, and despite its studied simplicity, the car can be considered very advanced.

The model had a two-cylinder air-cooled boxer engine with front-wheel drive via a four-speed fully synchronized gearbox with an optional centrifugal clutch. The gear stick was of the so-called "umbrella handle" model, and the body could easily be dismantled without tools. An ammeter and a speedometer were the only instruments available, and fuel was measured with a dipstick. The windshield wipers were driven by the speedometer cable. Anything considered unnecessary was not applied to the car. The shock absorbers consisted of durable counterweight dampers instead of regular hydraulic dampers that had to be replaced. Front and rear suspension were connected with a common spring pack per side along the sills. This had the effect that if the front wheel went into a pit, the rear wheel on the same side would spring down and dampen the blow and vice versa when driving up, for example, a curb. It also had a certain anti-roll effect. The suspension was thus reminiscent of the hydraulic system Hydrolastic, even if it was purely mechanical.

The handling characteristics were relatively good even though the car had soft suspension and leaned a lot. The wishbones were long and provided a long suspension travel. According to a persistent rumor, it was a requirement when designing the car that one should be able to drive across a freshly plowed field wearing a top hat.
