"Relatively well-used but also maintained in a road-ready condition."

Description

The current owner purchased the car at the end of last summer as a drivable project. The intention was to restore it in detail, but as often happens, other things have taken priority. The car had been off the road since 2016 until last year when a car dealer bought it. They serviced the car, renovated the brakes, replaced the front fenders, and got it approved at the inspection. The current owner has gone through the car’s electrical system, fixing a few small issues and poorly done repairs. The car is in good working condition and mechanically sound. It has avoided serious rust on the body, though some minor rust is present, as seen in the pictures. The clear coat has peeled off on the upper part of the driver’s door, and there are some marks in the paint, especially on the hood, but nothing too noticeable. The color combination is not very common among the surviving 9000 Aero Saabs. The paint color is called Le Mans Blue. The interior is gray, with the seats, back seat, and parts of the door panels in gray leather. The front seats need reupholstering or renovation, but otherwise, most of the interior is intact and in good condition.

Facts about the model

The Saab 9000 was manufactured in two generations between 1984 and 1998. The model was developed in collaboration with the Fiat group and has three sister models: the Fiat Croma, Lancia Thema, and Alfa Romeo 164. It was modernized in the early 1990s and replaced by the Saab 9-5. When the Saab 9000 was launched in 1984, it marked a new step for Saab’s car manufacturing. The 9000 was larger than the Saab 900 and showcased Saab’s intentions to enter a new segment to become more competitive. The press praised the model for its interior space, driving characteristics, and safety. Due to its generous interior space, the car was classified as a “Large Car” in the USA, which was an achievement considering the car’s (by American standards) compact exterior.

The Saab 9000 had the ignition switch located on the right side of the steering wheel, making it the last Saab where the start key or button was not positioned between the front seats. It was also the first Saab with a transverse engine since the Saab 92. The engine was a transverse variant of the H-engine, which was also used in the Saab 900 and 99, but the gearbox was unique to the Saab 9000 and entirely newly developed.
