"It is hard to believe that the car has traveled 35,320 km. There are very few signs of wear on the car. It is simply in excellent condition. This is an opportunity for a museum or private Saab collector to complete their collection. The car has been inspected by the Swedish vehicle inspection authority and is fully roadworthy. Just turn the ignition key, which is genuinely Saab-placed on the console between the seats."

Description

When Saab Automobile AB celebrated its 1-year anniversary as an independent company at the end of February 2011, a very exclusive car was unveiled. It was a Saab 9-3 convertible named the “Independence Edition.” Its specification was based on the top-class Griffin Aero. Unique to the Independence Edition was the special Sunset Red color, Hirsch dashboard covered in carbon fiber and leather, new sports steering wheel, exclusive turbo boost gauge with orange needle, new 18-inch wheels, and sports seats with gray leather upholstery with orange stitching and central stripes. All cars were equipped with six-speed manual or automatic transmissions. With this special model, Saab also wanted to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the sale of the first Saab convertible.

The model was planned to be produced in a limited edition of only 366 individually numbered units. The number of the limited edition was etched into the rear side windows.

“This is our Independence Day, and we will celebrate being masters of our own fate again, free to make our own judgments and decisions,” said then-CEO Jan Åke Jonsson during the announcement of Saab Independence Day. The day was celebrated at the Saab factory in Trollhättan with cake and musical performances. In March 2011, the 9-3 Cabriolet Independence Edition was premiered to the public at the major car show in Geneva. However, by the time of the bankruptcy in December 2011, only 38 units had been produced due to Saab’s problems in obtaining parts and financing.

The current Saab Independence Edition number 2 was purchased by the well-known Saab dealer Kjell Heintz in Åmål. The intention was to save the car and use it as a pleasant summer vehicle. Upon its return, the convertible was displayed in the dealership’s showroom as a draw. Interested parties and curious visitors came from afar to see the car. A few months later, an elderly couple from Söderhamn, friends with Heintz, expressed a strong desire to buy the car. After negotiations, a deal was made, with the condition that Heintz would have the option to buy it back if or when they wanted to sell it in the future. The car was registered in 2011 by Saab Automobile but was not used until October 16, 2013, when the couple in Söderhamn took it on the road. Up until 2022, they drove the car just over 30,000 km. After owning and caring for the car for 9 years, they felt satisfied with their collector car ownership. The car was then sold back to the now-retired Saab dealer Kjell Heintz. The car is now being sold by Bilweb Auctions on behalf of Heintz, who hopes it ends up with a true Saab enthusiast.

According to the vehicle register, the car has had 5 registered owners, including dealerships. However, there has only been 1 user of the car.
Owner 1 is Saab Automobile. Owner 2 is KVD, the auction firm hired by the bankruptcy trustee to sell the cars. Owner 3 is Saab dealer Kjell Heintz AB. Owner 4 is the elderly couple in Söderhamn, who used the car. Owner 5 is Kjell Heintz, now a retired Saab dealer.
