Description

A lady in Gislaved bought this car new from the Ford dealer Ambjörnssons Bil in Gislaved in 1970. She drove it very sparingly until 1984, when a new owner took over.

This owner also drove it very little and in turn sold it to a man in Villshärad in 1987. He owned the car until 2004, and it was most likely during this period that the fenders were repainted.
The current owner bought the car in 2004 and has since driven it only 150 km, always keeping it stored in a garage.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car runs well and everything works. It has recently been fitted with a new clutch slave cylinder and a new brake master cylinder. An oil change should be carried out, as it has been a few years since the last one.

  • Interior condition:

Original interior in very fine original condition with minimal signs of wear. There is one repair in the rear floor mat on the driveshaft tunnel.

  • Exterior condition:

Very nice paintwork and chrome. The rear fenders have been repainted in the original color, with a slight shade difference visible. The original steel wheels show some surface rust. Four additional steel wheels are included.

  • General condition:

It is rare to find a 50-year-old car in such fine original condition, well worth caring for and preserving. With a refresh of the engine bay and wheels, the appearance of this Cortina can be enhanced even further.

Facts about the model

The 1970 Ford Cortina belongs to the second generation (Cortina Mk2), which was produced from 1966 to 1970. It was a very popular family car in Europe, especially in the United Kingdom and Scandinavia.
Body styles included 2-door and 4-door sedans as well as an estate (wagon).
Drivetrain: Rear-wheel drive.
Transmission: Manual (3 or 4 gears); automatic was available as an option.
Engines (depending on market):
Four-cylinder petrol engines ranging from 1.3 to 1.6 litres.

In Sweden, the Cortina was sold as an affordable mid-range option, competing with cars such as the Volvo Amazon and Opel Rekord.
The Mk2 was the last Cortina before the Mk3 (1971), which adopted a more American-inspired design.
Today, the 1970 Cortina is relatively rare and sought after among classic car enthusiasts.
