It performed well during the test drive, with a good gearbox, clutch, brakes, and solid road handling, along with functioning gauges. It has recently been serviced, including a rebuilt alternator, and has just received a new inspection valid until 2026-09-30, making it ready to drive away."

Description

This Swedish-sold Lotus Elan M100 has had four owners since new. The current owner purchased it a few months ago, serviced it, and rebuilt the alternator. It just passed inspection, making it ready for its next owner. The sale is due to the car being a bit too sporty and low for his wife’s taste. The previous owner kept it as a summer car from 2012 until 2020, after which it was stored due to the pandemic.
In good condition with no rust thanks to its composite body, the car has only 98,602 km. It’s a fun drive, with the turbo kicking in around 4,500 rpm, turning heads and sparking curiosity. The roof is also very easy to raise and lower, adding to the car’s practicality and enjoyment.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

As mentioned, the car runs and drives well with no issues to report and has a new inspection valid until 2026-09-30. The black alloy wheels, though not standard, are in good condition, as are the tires, and there is a spare wheel in the boot.

  • Interior condition:

Interior is complete and in good working condition. The seats show some wear and marks (see pictures), but all gauges, electric windows, and the radio are functional, though the AC is not working. The carpets are in good condition with signs of wear, and the dashboard is intact with a few marks, including a missing plastic grommet and a left-side plastic cover by the mirror (see pictures). There are also some marks and scratches on the plastic trim by the seatbelt and a small rust mark on the edges of the metal cover on the seat.

  • Exterior condition:

Bodywork is rust-free and undamaged, with all panels aligned and everything opening and closing smoothly. The underbody is clean and tidy. The paintwork is presentable but shows some marks, scratches, and stone chips, particularly around the front and rear bumpers and wheel arches. Repainting the bumpers would significantly improve its appearance. The roof is complete and in good condition, with no holes, just minor scuffs from age. The windscreen has a few small stone chips, and there's small surface rust on a metal mount in the boot.

  • General condition:

Lotus Elan M100 is a car that many have either forgotten or never seen, making it a unique and cool sports car to own and enjoy. It's also simple to maintain. With a repaint of the bumpers, the car will look fantastic and stand out even more.

Facts about the model

Design: Styled by Peter Stevens, the M100 boasts a sleek, aerodynamic shape typical of late 1980s and early 1990s sports cars. Its body was made from lightweight composite materials.

Engine: It was powered by a 1.6L DOHC turbocharged engine, developed by Isuzu, producing 165 horsepower in its SE Turbo variant. This allowed for impressive performance, with 0-60 mph times in just over 6 seconds.

Chassis and Handling: Lotus engineered the Elan M100 with a focus on sharp, precise handling, and its ability to grip the road is often highlighted as one of the car's strongest points. The suspension system provided a comfortable ride for a sports car while keeping excellent control in corners.

Transmission: A 5-speed manual transmission delivered power to the front wheels, marking a departure from Lotus’ usual rear-wheel-drive setup.

Interior: Inside, the car was relatively simple, with a driver-focused cockpit. While it wasn't luxurious, it did have features such as power windows, leather seats (in some models), and a manual soft top.
