"In addition to being a rare vehicle—reportedly, only 2,729 units of the W111 220 SE Cabriolet were produced—this particular color combination is especially unique. According to reports, it features the original paint code DB 571, which was part of Mercedes’ color chart in 1963. The condition is also very good, and the work done on the car is of high quality. It has recently undergone oil changes and an inspection, but like all classic enthusiast cars that have been driven sparingly in recent years, a mechanical review may be beneficial."

Description

This car was likely sold new in Germany and was reportedly white at the time. According to information, it was owned by a film company that used it during film productions. It was imported and registered for traffic in Sweden in May 1989. It was reportedly restored by a Mercedes enthusiast who had mechanical and metalworking skills. The restoration was done 'by the book,' and it’s said that parts were purchased at the time for 150,000 SEK through Philipsson, including most of the chrome. It is equipped with the sought-after 'American headlights,' 'swan neck mirrors,' a white steering wheel, and a period-correct gear shift knob. The odometer shows 36,360 km, though the actual mileage is uncertain.

Starts easily and ran well in engine and drivetrain. Steering, clutch, shifting, and brakes functioning well. Not checked on a lift, but it looked good from what could be seen.

  • Interior condition:

A new leather interior has been installed by Bil och Marin in Linköping. Nice carpets and wood details. White steering wheel and gear shift knob from that era. Of course, a Becker premium radio, also from that time. Everything appears to be functioning in terms of controls and instrumentation.

  • Exterior condition:

Straight body and new fine paintjob with equally fine chrome, trims, glass, rubber, emblems, and lighting details. Nice wheels and hubcaps as well as newer Coker Classic tires. Fine and tight premium convertible top. Engine and trunk compartments in fine condition.

  • General condition:

Absolute quality, solid technical solutions, and exclusive equipment make this Mercedes-Benz Cabriolet a highly interesting collector's car from the 60s and among the best that was available in a standard-built car at that time. In this condition, a true classic and an exclusive enthusiast vehicle.

Facts about the model

Throughout the years, Mercedes has produced many fine coupé and convertible cars, including when model W111 was manufactured as model years 1960-1971. In February 1961, a coupé model was introduced, and in September of the same year a convertible, both designed by Paul Bracq. Unlike the sedan models, these did not have fins but featured dropped rear fenders. The development then followed other models through the 250 SE and 280 SE. The two-door cars were produced in a total of 32,804 units.
