Description

This car was sold new in Sweden and has been carefully used by enthusiastic owners. It was restored in the early 1990s and driven sparingly until 1998, when it was purchased by a close friend of the current owner. He had a small collection of fine cars, which he used sparingly during the summers. In 2023, the friend passed away, and the current owner inherited the collection. This is the last car from that collection, now being sold due to lack of space.

The car was restored several years ago by a previous owner and has been part of a collection since then. It has now received a start-up service and a brake inspection, and everything is in good working order.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is in good condition, with natural wear on the seats and carpets, and the headliner in good shape.

  • Exterior condition:

An older repaint in the original color that has held up very well, with only one blemish on the right front fender and small scratches on the left front fender. The chrome is in good condition but shows some pitting. New tires on fine wire wheels. Working reverse light integrated into the trunk handle.

  • General condition:

A desirable Jaguar that runs excellently and keeps up well with today’s traffic flow.

Facts about the model

The Jaguar Mk I and Mk II are four-door luxury sports saloons in the midsize segment, designed by William Lyons and produced from 1956 to 1969. The Mk II version was built between 1962 and 1967. It was available with three engine options: the Mk 2.4 with 120 hp, the Mk 3.4 with 210 hp, and the Mk 3.8 with 220 hp. All were six-cylinder engines with twin carburetors. The large 3.8 L engine reached 125 mph (201 km/h) and accelerated from 0–60 mph (0–97 km/h) in 8.5 seconds, which was impressive performance for its time. Gear shifting was manual with four speeds, but an electric overdrive was available as an option. Power steering and an automatic transmission could also be ordered.

Externally, it differed from its predecessor in several ways. For example, the upper part of the body was redesigned with larger windows, improving visibility by 18 percent. The updated appearance also featured a new grille and larger headlights in a different position. The car’s interior was also revised, including an improved instrument layout. With the Mk II came disc brakes on all four wheels, which became the new standard.

A total of 83,976 cars of the Mark II series were produced, of which 28,663 had the 3.4L engine. After 1967, the 2.4 and 3.4-liter Mk II were renamed 240 and 340 before the brand-new XJ model was introduced.
There was also a Daimler version produced from 1962 to 1969, fitted with a 2.5 L V8 producing 144 hp. It featured, among other things, the distinctive Daimler grille. A total of 17,620 examples of this version were built.
