Description

This is reportedly a Swedish-sold Zündapp 125. It had been unused for a long period and was removed from the Swedish vehicle register. It was re-registered in 2021 by the previous owner after an extensive and time-consuming restoration. Following the restoration, the motorcycle was displayed at club meets organized by the Zündapp Owners Club and has also been ridden regularly during the summer months since 2021.

Built in a café racer style, every mechanical component has been restored or replaced. It is now equipped with a new Mikuni carburetor, upgraded 150 mm brakes front and rear, new rubber-mounted engine mounts, clip-on handlebars, a larger headlight, and a custom screw-mounted fairing.

To complete the transformation, the motorcycle received a professional paint job in a striking two-tone silver and black finish. A custom plaque has also been made to highlight the restoration, and the Zündapp logo has been etched into the fuel cap as a final detail.

The current owner purchased the motorcycle as recently as February 2025 and has only ridden it a few times during the summer of 2025. It is now being sold due to new interests. In 2025, new tires were fitted and a service was carried out, including new gearbox oil.

According to Swedish vintage vehicle regulations, the motorcycle is exempt from mandatory inspections and road tax.

This is a remote auction. The images have been provided by the current owner, who confirms that the motorcycle is in exactly the same condition as when it was acquired in February 2025. At that time, it was inspected and test ridden by inspector Shaun Major in Sandared.

BWA has not inspected the motorcycle in person on this occasion. The motorcycle is currently located in Visby, on the island of Gotland.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Starts immediately, with a smooth and well-balanced engine that delivers a great sound. The gearbox shifts smoothly, the brakes are strong, and the wheels are well balanced, making it easy and very enjoyable to ride.

Every component around the engine is in excellent condition, reflecting the care put into the restoration.

It reaches speeds of 100–110 km/h without being pushed and is equipped with a digital tachometer for easy monitoring of engine speed. The speedometer and tachometer require attention, as they only function intermittently.

  • Interior condition:

The vinyl seat is in like-new condition and completely free from damage. Additionally, an extra luggage rack is included, as shown in the photos.

  • Exterior condition:

This motorcycle likely looks even better than when it was new, with an exceptional attention to detail and a striking color combination. It is free from damage and dents, and the chrome details shine like new. Even the rubber components are in excellent condition. This is one of the best-restored examples we have seen.

  • General condition:

A Zündapp 125 this fine and classic truly deserves a place in every motor enthusiast’s collection. With hundreds of hours of meticulous restoration work and a significant investment behind it, this motorcycle is not only a joy to ride but also worthy of being displayed in any collection—even in the living room.

Owner's comment

I have only ridden it a few times during the summer of 2025 and am now passing it on. The model designation is 518-23 and it can be considered of particular collector interest, as it is the first-year model of the Zündapp KS 125.

Facts about the model

The first KS 125 was developed from the 1969 KS 100, featuring a 125cc engine producing 15 hp. In 1971, Zündapp introduced the redesigned KS 125 with a tubular frame, cementing its reputation as a fast, reliable, and stylish commuter bike. Despite its high quality, Zündapp faced tough competition from Japanese manufacturers and was ultimately forced to cease operations in 1984.

Among young people in Sweden who grew up during the 1970s and 1980s, however, the brand was more closely associated with the Zündapp mopeds sold in Sweden from the 1960s onward. These were equipped with an air-cooled 50cc two-stroke engine with an aluminum cylinder.
