Description

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Runs well but needs to be push-started, as the kickstarter engages too low to start the engine effectively. Not equipped with the original ignition key.

  • Exterior condition:

Holes for a mudflap are present on the rear fender. See photos for exterior condition.

  • General condition:

Good usable condition with scuffs and paint imperfections. A perfect nostalgic everyday moped for older teenagers. See photos. We have not test ridden it, but according to the owner, it should run well.

Facts about the model

The Zündapp factory operated between 1917 and 1984. The name is an abbreviation of Zünder und Apparatebau G.m.b.H., originally a manufacturer of detonators for military use. Zündapp's first motorcycle, the Z22, was introduced in 1921. During World War II, they produced various military models, some of which came equipped with sidecars.

After the war, the company shifted its focus toward smaller and lighter vehicles, primarily two-wheelers such as scooters, mopeds, and lightweight motorcycles. They also produced a four-wheeled microcar called the Janus.

From the mid-1960s and for about a decade, Swedish youth culture was divided into two major camps: one loyal to Puch and the other to Zündapp. No known violence resulted from this rivalry, but there are plenty of stories about burnouts and wheelies outside local hot dog stands.

Bankruptcy became inevitable and was declared in 1984. The company’s assets, including manufacturing equipment and technical know-how, were acquired by Xunda Motor Co. in Tianjin, China. From 1987 to 1990, they produced small motorcycles based on the original Zündapp two-wheelers.
