Description

Originally delivered to its first owner by the BMW dealer in Östersund in September 1968, this car remained in his care for 37 years. He was also an early member of BMW Club Schweden.

The current owner purchased the car from him in 2005 and has since used it as an enthusiast vehicle, giving it regular maintenance and occasional exercise—though likely only a few hundred miles over the years.

Additional historical documentation may be available, as the owner is currently searching through boxes following a recent move to Skåne.

The car passed its most recent—and final—inspection on December 14, 2023.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

A bit hard to start due to a sensitive choke. An additional carburetor is included, allowing for either replacement or renovation of one or both units.

At some point, the car received a replacement gearbox—the original unit is included. A new clutch has been installed, featuring a refurbished pressure plate and flywheel.

The brakes have been serviced with new pads, shoes, and hoses.

  • Interior condition:

Well-preserved original interior, showing condition consistent with the car’s mileage. The original steering wheel is currently mounted slightly off-center, possibly due to a previous wheel alignment.

The headliner is in good condition, and the original rubber floor mats are well kept—though the driver's side shows a wear hole from the right foot.

The luggage compartment is clean and tidy.

  • Exterior condition:

Repainted at some point during the previous owner's care—though the exact timing is unknown—in its original color, Caribe Blau. The car presents well and looks sharp, and the combination of glossy blue paint against blooming rapeseed fields is both irresistibly charming and almost cliché in its visual appeal, even for a vehicle in driver condition.

  • General condition:

A historically significant model for the brand, here represented by an example in sensible, nicely preserved condition—with a compelling history, even in the absence of full documentation.

Facts about the model

BMW’s Neue Klasse was introduced in 1961 with the goal of revitalizing the brand’s finances and image after a series of difficult years. The BMW 2000 (produced from 1966 to 1972) was the largest and most powerful model in the Neue Klasse lineup, equipped with a two-liter inline-four engine delivering up to 120 hp in the fuel-injected version.

It was well-regarded for its performance, modern styling, and technically advanced design—featuring independent suspension and front disc brakes. The 1969 model, like the one offered here, came with several refined details and improved comfort.

The Neue Klasse series was ultimately succeeded by the first-generation 5 Series (E12) in 1972.
