Description

Dependable Dodge, as they said in American advertising. Translated into Swedish, it meant that Dodge sold reliable vehicles. In 1941, Dodge claimed that their trucks covered 98% of all transportation needs. The 2% that weren't covered were not specified. In any case, this reliable Dodge half-ton pickup arrived in Sweden in 1995. It underwent a thorough renovation and was inspected for registration in 2014. There have only been 3 owners since the car came to Sweden. None of them seem to have driven it particularly much. It's still in the same great condition after the renovation. The current owner overhauled the engine in 2023. Now he is selling the pickup to focus on historic racing instead.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Equipped with Chrysler's "Straight-6," a straight six-cylinder side-valve engine with a stated output of 80 horsepower. The gearbox is a four-speed, without synchronization on first gear. The engine was completely overhauled in 2023. The engine block was bored, planed (decked), received new pistons and bearings, the original crankshaft was ground, and the cylinder head was planed. (See separate pictures) At the same time, the gearbox was inspected and found to be in good condition, seals were replaced, and gear positions were adjusted. Since then, the pickup has only been driven 50 kilometers. Converted to a 12-volt electrical system with an alternator for more trouble-free use.

  • Interior condition:

Here we find what is called "strictly business" in English. These were built as work vehicles to be used on the ranch, by craftsmen, or as all-around vehicles. The lack of luxury is noticeable. Here you'll find only the most basic elements: a bench seat, steering wheel, and pedals. The common denominator is the fantastic condition. Everything has been renovated or replaced with new parts. The bench seat is upholstered in artificial leather. The door panels and headliner are original-style Masonite. Equipped with an aftermarket tachometer and temperature gauge. See picture.

  • Exterior condition:

Very nice two-tone silver-gray paintwork. Equipped with newly manufactured Firestone bias-ply tires of a period-correct type, giving the pickup the right height and appearance. Equipped with modern H4 headlight inserts for better illumination. We find no external issues. Possibly, the bed is too nice to carry cargo on. The underside also maintains good quality.

  • General condition:

A beautifully restored vintage workhorse. Today, it fits right into car exhibitions and is a real magnet for those who enjoy attention.

Facts about the model

In 1939, Dodge presented a completely redesigned line of trucks. Formally the T series for 1939, V series for 1940, and the W series from 1941 through 1947, the trucks became mostly known as the Dodge Job-Rated trucks. The Dodge trucks enjoyed some popularity before the war, and the last of them – built in 1942, before Dodge turned to mostly military production – had progressed to the W-series model name. When commercial sales of the trucks restarted post-war, they resumed as the 1946 Dodge W-series.

Dodge's Job-Rated trucks used flathead sixes, originally developed by Plymouth.
