"A very fine and well-regarded car that requires some mechanical work to return to the road. It has been exceptionally well preserved, with no signs of rust damage."

Description

This car was originally purchased from Dahlqvist Motor in Kristianstad on May 12, 1967.

It has had only one owner since new and has been preserved in remarkably fine original condition. The body, interior, and all trim remain in their factory state, reflecting the style and quality that made the Thunderbird an American classic.

Cosmetically, the car is in excellent shape with an untouched original feel—paint, chrome, and interior are all well-preserved. It has been off the road and in storage since 2007 and therefore requires a full mechanical overhaul before being roadworthy again. A perfect project for someone looking to bring a true enthusiast’s car back to life.

The car is currently located at Tofta Bil in Kristianstad, which has been entrusted by the widow to handle the sale through BWA.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car has been test-started but did not run on all cylinders. Given its long period of storage, not only the engine but also the brakes and other mechanical systems should be thoroughly inspected and overhauled or restored as needed. The trunk cannot currently be opened, so its contents remain unknown.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is in exceptionally fine original condition, showing only minimal signs of use. The headliner has come loose but is currently held up by the roof console.

  • Exterior condition:

The paint is in good condition with only a few minor blemishes, including a small imperfection on the left rear fender and its emblem. The chrome is in great shape, as are the wheels and hubcaps.

  • General condition:

An opportunity to acquire a classic 1967 Ford Thunderbird – a true time capsule! This rare car, once given a proper mechanical overhaul, will make a comfortable enthusiast vehicle with plenty of character and presence.

Facts about the model

Ford Thunderbird 1967 – A New Generation of Personal Luxury

The 1967 Ford Thunderbird marked the beginning of the model’s fifth generation and a clear shift in design, technology, and target audience. Originally launched in 1955 as a sporty two-seater rival to the Chevrolet Corvette, the Thunderbird had evolved into something entirely different: a personal luxury car—a vehicle designed to combine comfort, style, and power for the discerning driver.

Design and Body
1967 was the first year the Thunderbird was offered with a four-door body—a bold move that made the model more accessible to families and buyers who prioritized comfort. The iconic "suicide doors" (rear doors hinged at the back) on the four-door version gave the car a distinctive look and remain one of the most memorable features of this generation.

The front end was redesigned with a more aggressive appearance, featuring concealed headlights hidden behind a motorized grille—an advanced and rare feature for its time.

Engine and Performance
Under the hood, the Thunderbird typically housed a powerful 390 cubic inch V8 (6.4 liters), but for those craving even more performance, a 428 cu in V8 was available as an option. While the Thunderbird wasn’t built for racing, it offered plenty of power to deliver a smooth yet commanding driving experience.

Interior and Comfort
Ford placed a strong emphasis on luxury and comfort—evident in every detail of the interior. Large, plush seats, a driver-centric wraparound dashboard, and a wide array of power-operated features (mirrors, windows, seats) all showcased that this was no ordinary Ford. It was built to impress—from the inside out.

Significance and Legacy
The 1967 Thunderbird became a symbol of the American dream—luxury on wheels. It belonged to an era when cars were meant to be big, powerful, comfortable, and oozing with style. Today, the 1967 model year is especially sought-after for its unique blend of design, technology, and limited availability—especially in well-preserved original condition.
