Volkswagen Typ 1 Bubbla Split Window 1100 — 1950

Charming and sought-after in a pleasantly used condition. It underwent an older renovation in the eighties and, as a well-used enthusiast's car for over 40 years, it has developed a nice patina and an active history.

"The split-window model of the Volkswagen is today among the most highly valued; from that perspective, this example is both affordable and interesting."

Description

The car was delivered new in July 1950 by Josef Engström Bil and Radiofirma in Västervik to a person named Arvid Eckerfeldt in Äskestock, south of Västervik. What happened to the car until 1980 when it was re-registered is a story for an inquisitive new owner to uncover with the help of the National Archives. However, the current owner bought the car in 1986 after it had passed through the hands of a couple of other enthusiasts, including the person who carried out the renovation and re-registration. Over the years, it has been used and maintained with enthusiasm, receiving a better interior from a contemporary model and being complemented with fine accessories from the period. Before the new inspection regulations came into effect in 2018, all vehicles registered before 1951 were exempt from inspections, so for a fine split-window Beetle from 1950, the new regulations made no difference.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine and gearbox feel good together, they whine as they should in all unsynchronized positions. The brakes grip somewhat evenly, but the front right has a slight contact, and they simply need a service and inspection all around before the car is used, as well as the mechanical parts. The last oil service was done in 2018 or 2019, and the car has basically been standing since then.

  • Interior condition:

Complete and nicely patinated interior coming from a sister car. Nice headliner with some usual moisture stains. Sweet and expensive accessories from this era include things like the glove compartment doors, the radio, and the antenna. Just the radio alone is sometimes valued at 50,000 SEK and upwards.

  • Exterior condition:

Painted with cellulose lacquer in the early eighties. The car has been extensively used for meets, trips, and exhibitions, and the paint is in a nicely used condition, but with small marks and touch-ups.

  • General condition:

Fint fungerande idag med normala servicebehov efter ett längre stillestånd och en historik i närtid, i sitt andra liv, efter återregistreringen. Den första delen, mellan 1950 till 1980, återstår att eventuellt upptäcka för en ny ägare.
