"A long-distance Italian motorcycle ready for the summer weather?"

Description

This magnificent bike came into the current owner’s possession by chance 18 years ago. One day, he rode his Guzzi to work, where a coworker noticed him. She mentioned that she had a similar bike sitting in her woodshed, unused for many years, and asked if he wanted to see it. (What a pick-up line!) He did, and they struck a deal. The bike needed some work, which he started immediately. The engine was also rebuilt, though this was probably unnecessary since all measurements were within tolerances.

Given the low frame number, 04, the seller has tried to research the motorcycle’s previous life. It began as an early pre-production prototype used for testing by government agencies. Considering its initial and current color, it was likely a cortege Guzzi for a non-police authority. These bikes were reportedly painted gray and had 700 cc engines with right-hand gear shifts. Given the small size of the Guzzi factory, it was likely taken back after service and rebuilt as a 750 Special. It was even white at one point and is believed to have served the Vatican, which only had white vehicles.

After the rebuild, it was exported to Sweden and sold as new. The engine was fully restored many years ago and has only run about 15 miles since then, though it has been started and ridden a few miles each year.

As a curiosity, it can be mentioned that the V7 engine was the only one that passed the test when the USA was building unmanned reconnaissance planes in the early 1970s. The test consisted of two weeks of running at 4,000 RPM in 50-degree heat, then moving to a freezer room at 50-degree cold for an equal duration.
