Mercedes-Benz 219 W105 — 1957

A complete and easy project of a somewhat unusual model where the more exclusive so-called pontoon body forms the front part, and from the B-pillar backwards is what is referred to in Sweden with the somewhat unflattering name 'bull-Merca'.

Description

The car was delivered new in Sweden and registered in 1957, but it seems that it was not put into traffic until late the following year. The current owner, now the estate, bought it in 1987 from an acquaintance who was working at the Mercedes dealer Brorssons Bil in Trelleborg. He received it as a trade-in and directly passed the car on to his friend. The Merc was then fully roadworthy and the latest approved inspection was done on 1988-05-17. Thereafter, the owner started a body renovation which eventually stalled.

Facts about the model

The Mercedes-Benz 219 W105 was in production for a relatively short period, from March 1956 to July 1959. This model was introduced as the 220A was upgraded to the 220S in 1956. The W105 was equipped with the less powerful six-cylinder engine from the 220A and featured a unique body design that combined the front end of the 220 with the rear end of the 190. This car was targeted at a specific customer base. Despite its precise name, the 219 model did not achieve significant sales figures, with a total production of 27,845 cars.
