Facts about the model

Built at Valmet's factory in Nystad, Finland. Has been exhibited at the Saab Museum in Trollhättan since 1988. Saab 96 was manufactured between 1960 and 1980. The V4 engine was introduced in August 1966 as a model year 1967. The sales of Saab 96 had then begun to be sluggish as buyers were no longer interested in two-stroke engines. The V4 came from Ford and revived in the 96. Although the new four-stroke engine weighed only 50 kilos more than the old two-stroke, it delivered 50 percent more power and gave 65 horsepower. However, the two-stroke lived for another two years in parallel with the new engine alternative.
