"A bold and spectacular ride that appears to run well and is in a fine, user-friendly condition. In recent years, it has been driven sparingly. There are some details that need attention, but overall, it remains a thrilling car to enjoy."

Description

This car arrived in Sweden in April 2005, but it wasn’t registered for traffic until March 29, 2007. The current owner, a technician, car enthusiast, and hot rod builder, originally acquired it in September 2012 through his company, later selling it to a good friend in June 2016, before buying it back in September 2019. Throughout these years, it has been driven relatively little.

Reportedly, the car was originally a 427 model, but it now houses a 454 engine with a four-bolt main block producing approximately 435 horsepower. It features a manual transmission, with both the clutch and gearbox replaced in 2013.

That same year, all rubber bushings in the front and rear suspension were replaced, followed by a four-wheel alignment. The engine mounts were also renewed. The brake calipers have been refurbished, and a new master cylinder was installed, along with a new starter motor.

Under the current ownership, the car has received regular inspections and servicing.

Included with the vehicle are the owner’s manual, a binder with documentation, and Corvette literature.

Inspected and road-ready.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Started easily and ran smoothly. Due to icy and slippery conditions at the time of inspection, a test drive was not conducted. However, according to the owner, it drives well and all functions operate properly.

There are vibrations at higher RPMs, though it is not related to the crankshaft—it could be the harmonic balancer.

Equipped with a rear sway bar.

It has not been inspected on a lift, but from what was visible, the underside appeared to be in good condition.

  • Interior condition:

Nice interior, largely appearing to be original. The seats have good firmness, and the carpets are in great condition. The door panels are well-preserved, and new rubber seals have been installed.

The steering wheel, controls, and instrumentation are in good shape. However, the odometer and AC are not functioning.

Equipped with three-point seat belts for the upper body and fixed lap belts.

  • Exterior condition:

Originally painted in Monza Red, the car is now finished in Hugger Orange (a Chevrolet original color). It was likely repainted around 2011/12 and still presents well with a glossy finish on a solid body.

There is some paint peeling on the hood, as well as minor cracks in a few areas, mainly around the fender flares.

The glass, chrome trim, emblems, and lighting components are all in good condition.

New rubber seals for the Targa roof panels (ensuring a tight seal) are included, along with new storage bags for the panels.

The car sits on nice wheels with newer tires.

  • General condition:

The Corvette Stingray has long been an essential part of The American Dream. This car offers great potential and character, embodying the spirit of the era.

The Big Block models are true icons from the late '60s and early '70s, and this particular example, finished in a bold period-correct color, has now surpassed the half-century mark.

A historically significant classic, it stands as both an enthusiast's dream and a collector’s piece, representing a golden era of American muscle and performance.

Owner's comment

"A Corvette C3 has been my dream car ever since I first saw one as a kid in the early '70s. However, work and my passion for long voyages at sea took priority. But 40 years later, when I finally came ashore, that dream became a reality. Now, after more than a decade of ownership and with retirement approaching, a new long journey awaits—along with a boat restoration project. So, it’s time for the Corvette to bring joy to its next owner. It will be missed."

Facts about the model

The Corvette C3 was introduced in 1968, built on the same chassis as its predecessor. Chief designer Bill Mitchell drew inspiration from the aquatic world and named the model Stingray.

This generation of Chevrolet’s sporty Corvette became a huge success and a bestseller.

In 1973, the new soft plastic front bumper was introduced, marking a shift toward safer impact-absorbing designs. The following year, 1974, was the final production year for Big Block engines, marking the end of an era for high-displacement muscle.

By 1975, the catalytic converter was introduced, and the rear bumper was redesigned as a one-piece molded unit. That same year, the convertible version was discontinued, making 1975 the last year for the open-top C3 until its return in later Corvette generations.

The C3 remained in production until 1982, cementing itself as one of the most iconic and recognizable Corvettes in history.
