Description

Bilweb Auctions has been entrusted with the sale of the cars from the Saab Memorial Hall collection. Sweden's charming little Saab museum. It was founded by Norwegian Tron Bach, who moved to Sweden in 2011. After a busy life as a hotel owner, Tron relocated to a small farm in Sweden, finding his home in the village of Gullsjö, Vännäs. When he discovered a worn and dented Saab 92 behind a shed, the idea took shape. He decided to start a Saab museum to honor the Swedish automotive heritage, a car admired worldwide. During the years the museum has been open, over 1,000 visitors have come to this small Norrland town's Saab museum. Tron feels that, with age, it is now time to close his museum with pride.

The museum will close in time for the auction’s conclusion. Until then, we recommend a visit. For more information, visit Saab Memorial Hall.

At this auction, there are several cars that we have not been able to remove from the premises. To do so, one of the walls will need to be torn down. This will be done at the closing, so buyers can collect their cars. Please note that these vehicles have been off the road for an extended period. This means that more work may be needed to get them in order compared to a similar model that has been continuously driven.

About the Car:

Saab 9-5 Griffin with V6 engine and automatic transmission. This was a truly luxurious car with Saab aiming at the American market. This is one of the vehicles we were unable to extract. During a start attempt, it was found that the immobilizer needs attention. The car was acquired for the collection in 2015 and was driven under its own power all the way from Stockholm to the museum in Vännäs.

The car comes with an owner's manual, spare wheel, and jack. It has been off the road and uninspected since 2015.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Saab 9-5 Griffin with a 3.0-liter V6 engine producing 200 hp and an automatic transmission. When we attempted to start the car it was unsuccessful. We thought that the remote control for the immobilizer nedeed to be synchronized. (Please see the video for more details). The Swedish Saab Club visited the museum on July 27 and made a diagnosis. They advised that the fault lies in the starter motor.

No technical functions have been tested by BWA, so we do not know more about the condition beyond this. The car was running perfectly when it was placed in the museum in 2015.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is soiled and in need of cleaning, with wear evident on the driver's seat. Please refer to the images. Equipped with navigation, a stereo with a CD changer, and a remote control. No equipment has been tested by BWA.

  • Exterior condition:

The car shows typical wear for a 24-year-old vehicle with 270,000 kilometers. Please refer to the photos. There is a crack in the windshield, and it is missing the distinctive rear wing, as mentioned in the owner's description.

  • General condition:

A once-luxurious car now in need of an new starter motor, service, and inspection after 10 years in the museum.

Owner's comment

The museum had to include the luxurious 9-5 Griffin in its collection. It was the world's first mass-produced car with air-conditioned seats, inspired by Saab's aircraft technology. On Saturday, July 27, the Saab club Norrland will visit and diagnose the car, so hopefully new information about the car will come shortly. I managed to acquire a 2000 model in Bromma. After buying it, I stopped at the nearest gas station on my way home and borrowed some tools. Foolishly, I thought the rear wing was an aftermarket accessory. I didn't want to arrive at the museum in Gullsjö with a "pimped-out" Saab, so I removed the wing and gave it to the gas station staff. That was that! One learns from their mistakes.

Facts about the model

The Saab 9-5 replaced the older Saab 9000 as Saab's largest vehicle in 1998. The design development was led by Einar J. Hareide.

During its production run, the Saab 9-5 was available in both sedan and the highly popular wagon models. It came with a variety of engines, primarily four-cylinder turbos, but also included a V6 from Opel.
