Description

Originally sold in Sweden in 1965, this Beetle was custom-built around 10 years ago by a seasoned builder with a background in custom cars and rat rods—someone who knew how to build a car the right way. The engine was fully rebuilt and tuned by Anders Fridh (Speed Autoteknik), and features an external oil cooler for improved performance. Finished in Apple Green with custom pinstriping by Mark Willhans, the car has since gone on to win multiple awards at car shows.

Over the years, it has had four additional owners who’ve made a few subtle updates, including fitting rear seats (fully registered for four passengers), changing the rear exhaust box, and mounting a removable surfboard—easily unbolted if desired. A standout detail is the clip-on tonneau cover, offering a practical and stylish alternative to a traditional convertible top, which can often be bulky and awkward to use.

The car remains a true head-turner, with a solid, rust-free body. It runs and drives smoothly, feels stable on the road, and makes no unusual noises—ready to be enjoyed just as it is.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The 1600cc engine starts easily, runs smoothly, and sounds great. It’s easy to drive, with a short-shift gear setup that works well and solid brakes. The engine bay is neat and well-organized, fitted with a custom chrome engine plate and belt cover, along with an external oil cooler. All electrical work has been done well. It also has a dual battery setup, originally installed to support an upgraded stereo system. Inspection-exempt and ready to hit the road.

  • Interior condition:

The custom interior has been built to a high standard, featuring diamond-stitched weatherproof boat leatherette on the front seats, door panels, and rear side panels. An additional rear seat, upholstered in leather and suede, has been fitted—foldable and equipped with seat belts for added practicality. Everything inside is clean and in good condition. The dashboard is simple and custom-made, with a clean layout and an added RPM gauge.

  • Exterior condition:

The bodywork is clean and straight with good panel alignment—impressively done for a custom-built car. There are no rust issues, and the rear panel beneath the engine lid has been repaired. The engine lid is fully removable but can also be closed completely. The underbody is tidy, showing signs of welding related to the customization work. It rides on custom alloy wheels with good tires all around. The surfboard and roof rack are easily removable with just a few bolts. A custom-fitted, lowered windscreen completes the unique look.

  • General condition:

This is a cool-looking car, and building something like this is both expensive and time-consuming—so here’s your chance to get something special at the right price. The only points I’d consider changing are the exhaust back box and the number plate mount to reduce the risk of scraping, but that choice is entirely up to you.
