"Both the overall appearance and the details are beautifully preserved in original condition. With the 100-year anniversary approaching, a few upgrades have naturally been made—such as replaced wheels and an upgraded generator for improved functionality, but the original parts are included. A car full of charming and elegant details."

Description

This car was imported by the current owner from Los Angeles, California, in the autumn of 2006. With a background in technical education, engineering studies, and a lifelong interest in vehicles, he has taken care of many cars over the years—both daily drivers and classics. In 2006, he and his son embarked on a trip “over there” in search of a classic to bring back home. At the top of the wish list was a Model A Ford—ideally a slightly more unusual version. When they came across a Sport Coupé in beautiful original condition, the deal was made. The car was officially registered in Sweden on April 12, 2007, and has since been a delightful companion.

There is documented ownership history going back to the early 1950s, when it was owned by a U.S. fighter pilot who sadly lost his life in the final month of the Korean War. After that, the car was stored under a parachute (included) in a hangar until the 1980s, when it was purchased by a collector who carried out a restoration while preserving much of the car’s originality and character.

In Sweden, the car has been used at meets and rallies and has always performed reliably. Included with the car are documentation, literature, various useful spare parts, and original tools. Ready to drive.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Started easily and the engine ran smoothly and quietly. During a test drive through a residential area and on a 70 km/h country road, the car cruised along at a good pace. Road handling, steering, clutch, gear shifting, and brakes all worked well and felt surprisingly positive—especially for a car nearing antique status. Although it hasn’t been inspected on a lift, the high ground clearance allowed for a good look underneath, and everything appeared to be in excellent condition.

  • Interior condition:

Charming interior in original condition. Comfortable seat and a rumble seat (mother-in-law seat) for an extra passenger, which has been reupholstered. Steering wheel, controls, gauges, and all functions are in good condition for the car’s age. Odometer is installed and working.

  • Exterior condition:

The body may have its original paint, while the fenders and various sections have been repainted. The roof is in good condition. Chrome, glass, trim, emblems, and lighting details are all in good condition for the car’s age. Some rust is present on the bumpers. The wheels are not original—currently 15-inch rims fitted with wider, good-quality tires for improved road handling. Turn signal units have been installed. A removable trunk, custom-made by the current owner, is mounted and included with the car.

  • General condition:

It’s easy to be charmed by this car. It’s in good, straightforward condition and presentation. In fact, it’s also relatively easy to drive in regular traffic, which makes it a delightful classic and enthusiast vehicle—now approaching its 100-year anniversary.

Owner's comment

– Age is catching up with us—not the car, it still runs just as it should—but it's time for us to downsize our collection and let the next owner take over. It’s been a fun and relatively trouble-free journey, from the search for the car and the import from California, to the ownership experience and the gatherings with friends in the Model A Ford Club.

Facts about the model

The Ford Model A, which succeeded the legendary Model T, was produced from 1927 to 1931. With the arrival of the Model A, standardized driving controls were introduced, including a more traditional pedal layout. It featured a 4-cylinder, 3.3-liter engine producing around 40 horsepower. Nearly 4,850,000 units were built, and it became a great success—even in Sweden. To this day, over a thousand registered examples remain in the country.

Unlike the Model T, the Model A was offered in a wide variety of body styles, colors, and trim levels. One of the rarer versions in Sweden is the two-seater Sport Coupé, with a fixed roof designed to resemble a soft top—complete with faux top bows. The rear window could be opened, and together with a tilt-out windshield, it allowed for good airflow while still providing sun protection. These models often featured a so-called "rumble seat" in the rear, allowing room for extra passengers.

In 1932, the Model A was replaced by the upgraded Model B, but the big news that year was the introduction of the Model 18 and Model 40—both equipped with the now-iconic V8 engine. But that’s a story for another time.
