Description

The car has an intriguing ownership history. It was initially sold brand new on February 22, 1972, to its first owner. Later, in 1978/79, it was purchased by the second owner, who then sold it to a third owner within the same family. In 1986, it was exported to Sweden. The current owner acquired the car in 1993 and embarked on a renovation journey that spanned over a decade. It was re-registered in 2004 when the renovation was completed. In total, there have been five owners.

Old receipts from Spyder Limited indicate that the car underwent chassis repairs, sandblasting, and the replacement of worn parts, but it essentially required a comprehensive restoration when purchased in 1993. Older pictures from the renovation process are included, showcasing a full body overhaul, and there are numerous receipts for work carried out by Morgan at Bennets Lotus Specialist in Lerum.

Now, after 30 years of ownership, the current owner has decided to sell. The decision stems from the practical consideration that climbing into the car has become more challenging, and there is less time available to fully enjoy it. Over the past six years, the car has covered approximately 3,000 kilometers during the summer months. There is some good older documentation supplied.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

I recommend scheduling a service and review for the car, given its limited use in recent years. Specific maintenance tasks to consider include replacing the rubber oil pipe (a new one is included), addressing the issue with the rear driver-side wheel bearing or hub, replacing the broken rear light, and giving the engine bay a much-needed cleanup and, if necessary, repainting the valve covers. It's worth noting that despite these concerns, the car currently runs and drives well, and it boasts attractive alloy wheels with good tires.

  • Interior condition:

The car's interior is clean and well-maintained, renovated over 20 years ago. Seats are mostly in good shape, with slight damage to the driver's seat bolster. The headliner is intact. Mats and carpets are generally good, with some wear near the pedals. The wooden dashboard has minor varnish cracks. Instruments work well, and the original radio remains. Door cards are in good condition, enhancing the interior's appeal.

  • Exterior condition:

The fiberglass body eliminates rust concerns, and the bodywork is clean with bright chrome. Paint has minor gel coat cracks on the bonnet and boot lid (see pictures). Passenger side has some dark marks on the front wing, door, and rear wheel arch. Small paint chips, a scuff on the lower sill, and two extra drill holes for door adjustment are present; rubber plugs would enhance appearance. The underbody is clean except for a hole from a petrol tank replacement.

  • General condition:

The renovation, now over 20 years old, has held up well, and the car remains in good condition. You can make small cosmetic fixes to improve its appearance and consider some minor work in the engine bay, along with essential service work. It's perfectly fine to drive in its current state, and you have the option to make further improvements gradually over time.
