Zustand technisch
Starts easily and runs lively in both engine and drivetrain. During a short test drive on country roads, everything felt solid and well-functioning such as steering, clutch, gearbox, handling, brakes, etc. Not inspected on a lift, but from what could be seen it looks good with both use and racing patina.
-
Zustand Interieur
Stripped for racing with newer seats and harnesses. All equipment for competition use and in good working order.
-
Zustand Exterieur
Robust and solid, with as many scars and just as honest as the tough guy Börje Salming. Plastic windows in doors, sides, and rear. ATS rims with good tires.
-
Zustand gesamt
A classic on the racetracks that is not yet ready for retirement. A car with both engine and racing history, well worth entering the realm of enthusiast vehicles.

Fakten zum Modell
From the very beginning, Volvo showed that they were now taking the lead in safety development. When the model was introduced, it featured, among other things, a dual-circuit braking system, disc brakes on all wheels, a split collapsible steering column that in the event of a crash would break off instead of being pushed toward the driver. The windshield was of laminated type and elastic. Around the passengers was a “safety cage” of box beams and crumple zones in the front and rear. The doors had safety locks, the rear-view mirror was spring-loaded, and the seats cleverly designed to reduce injuries such as whiplash. Previously, various safety features, especially in the US, had been seen as a sign that a car was not safe enough, but now this perception changed worldwide, and Volvo took the lead when it came to safety thinking.
At first, it was the traditional B18 engine that did the job, but soon enough the B20 engine arrived. Over the years, there were various updates and special versions, ranging from the well-equipped GT versions to a five-door model with a raised roof called the Express for better load capacity, which then replaced the aging workhorse Volvo Duett. For the 1974 model year came the both praised and criticized heavy bumpers. This version, however, strengthened Volvo’s reputation as the world’s safest car. This configuration was produced for only nine months before production of the 240 model began in June 1974.
The 140 model was manufactured in Sweden, Belgium, Canada, Australia, Malaysia, and South Africa, so the epithet “world car” is fitting. More than 1.2 million units were produced between 1966 and 1974.
Being the robust car it is, the Volvo 140 also became a popular competition car in many different disciplines. Countless cars have been converted and are still being converted for various purposes, from rallycross, ice and circuit racing to classic rally competitions.
