"A fine and well-restored example of a Triumph 1800."

Beschreibung

This is a right-hand drive Triumph 1800. The model was designed towards the end of the Second World War by Standard Motor Company, which had acquired Triumph in 1944. SMC wanted to challenge Jaguar with something sporty, as the companies had collaborated mechanically with engines before the war. This particular car underwent an extensive restoration in England during the early 1990s, executed to a very high standard. The restoration covered the entire vehicle, from the bodywork and mechanics to the interior, and the result is a classic that today bears witness to solid craftsmanship and great care. Since the restoration, the car has been used primarily as a participant at various enthusiast events. It has been seen at Midsummer celebrations, sports car club meetings, veteran markets, cruising evenings and car shows, where it has attracted interest among visitors and enthusiasts. The car's high quality has also been recognized internationally. At the prestigious Triumph Roadster Club events in England, it was awarded "Best Car" two years in a row – 1994 and 1995. These accolades are clear evidence of the car's excellent condition and the high standard of the restoration.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch

The engine starts readily and sounds as it should, running smoothly in conjunction with the gearbox, which is operated via a steering column gear lever. The brakes apply evenly and the car's other ancillary equipment appears to function as it should.

  • Zustand Interieur

The interior is in very fine restored condition. Fine dashboard, door panels and carpets.

  • Zustand Exterieur

Very fine paintwork with some natural signs of use, see images, but nothing that detracts from the overall impression. Fine and complete headliner. The undercarriage is also in fine restored condition.

  • Zustand gesamt

An amusing model with its unusual mother-in-law seat, festively practical for purposes such as newlywed transport and rather boisterously sporty in very fine and presentable condition. A Triumph with a humble attitude and a proud character.

Fakten zum Modell

The Triumph 1800 Roadster is one of the most distinctive British sports cars of the post-war period. The model was manufactured by Triumph Motor Company between 1946 and 1948 and was designed to revive the British motor industry following the Second World War. Approximately 2,500 examples of the 1800 model were built, making it a rare and highly sought-after collector car today.

What makes the Triumph 1800 Roadster unique is its elegant, hand-built aluminium body, mounted on a traditional steel frame. The design drew inspiration from open touring cars of the 1930s, with long sweeping wings, freestanding headlamps and an upright grille that gave the car a very distinctive appearance.

One of the model's most charming details is the fold-out "dickey seat" – an extra two-seater hidden beneath the boot lid. When folded up, two passengers could ride in the open air, a solution that was unusual even when the car was new and is now an appreciated feature among enthusiasts.

Under the bonnet sits a four-cylinder 1.8-litre engine producing approximately 65 horsepower, coupled to a four-speed manual gearbox. The car offered a comfortable and elegant driving experience rather than sheer performance. The top speed was around 120 km/h, which was quite sufficient for the roads of the period.

The Triumph 1800 Roadster was exported extensively, particularly to North America, where it helped establish Triumph as a well-known name in British sports cars. The experience gained from the model also provided an important foundation for the later and considerably more sporting TR models, which would make Triumph world-famous during the 1950s and 1960s.
