Beschreibung
For the past 20 years, it has been stored during the dark season and only driven with summer tires. It has always been kept in a garage. Besides the owner's meticulous care, it has received regular service at an authorized Volvo workshop, Bilia Haga Norra. Any issues beyond normal maintenance have been promptly addressed.
In the past year, the starter motor has been refurbished with a new core, and a new windshield washer pump has been installed. There is no significant rust, but areas around the wheel arches and lower sills, especially at the rear, could use some attention and possible repairs.
The original upholstery has been protected by seat covers over the years, which remain in place on the rear seat.
Included with the car are a steering wheel lock, two extra car batteries with a charger, additional wiper blades, spare bulbs, lead additive, various oils, and more. Also included are a binder with documentation, inspection records, literature such as original handbooks, and a set of duplicate keys.
Inspected and approved in October 2024, the car is road-ready.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand
-
Zustand technisch
Starts easily and runs smoothly in both engine and drivetrain. Gear shifts, clutch, steering, brakes, and other functions operated well. During a gentle test drive in urban conditions, the car felt stable and responsive for its age.
It has not been inspected on a lift, but everything visible underneath appeared in good condition, with no remarks from the vehicle inspection. However, as the car is 50 years old, there may be details that need attention or possible maintenance. -
Zustand Interieur
Well-preserved interior featuring light brown/beige fabric upholstery and carpets, along with original molded rubber floor mats. The headliner is in good condition. Door panels and trim are also well-maintained, though the window crank on the passenger door has come loose—however, the crank and all necessary parts are included. This occurred during the installation of central locking and a Defa alarm system, both of which are functional.
The steering wheel, controls, and instrumentation are in good working condition. However, the instrument panel lighting requires a new bulb. The rubber seals are generally in good shape, with some minor detachment. Equipped with a Philips car radio. -
Zustand Exterieur
The car appears to have its original paintwork in Cypress Green, showing normal wear for its age and mileage. The paint has a slightly dull finish, so a proper detailing would enhance its appearance.
Glass, chrome trim, moldings, rubber seals, and lighting components are in good condition with expected signs of aging. There is a stone chip in the windshield.
The wheels show some scuffing and surface rust, but the hubcaps are in good shape, and the tires are decent.
The outer fuel filler flap is slightly misaligned due to the installation of a lockable inner fuel cap, preventing the flap from closing completely.
Both the engine bay and trunk are in good original condition. Equipped with an engine block heater with a grill-mounted plug and an interior heater socket on the passenger side. -
Zustand gesamt
This car has been driven and carefully maintained by the same owner for 42 years and remains in fine, well-kept driving condition. It represents a piece of Swedish folk-home and automotive history, as well as a classic enthusiast vehicle from the era when Volvo further cemented its position as a leader in safe family cars.

Fakten zum Modell
The VESC safety car influenced the new model's distinctive front-end design. In its first year, three engine options were available: B20A, B21A, and B21E. Trim levels included L, DL, GL, and GLE—with the GL and GLE exclusively available as four-door models and the only versions featuring the B21E engine.
Over the years, the 240 series evolved, reflecting changing trends and demands. As four-door models became more popular than two-door versions, Volvo continued refining the model. When the 740 series debuted in 1984, many believed the 240's time was up—but Volvo doubled down, further developing the 240 lineup.
Throughout its production run, the 240 was offered with a variety of engines, including gasoline, diesel, and turbocharged options. It was available in two-door, four-door, and five-door wagon variants, with trims ranging from sporty to luxurious. However, the DL and GL versions—simple, durable, and practical—are perhaps the most representative of the Swedish folkhemmet (people’s home).
There were faster, flashier cars on the market, but few could match the 240’s combination of simplicity, durability, quality, and safety—making it a down-to-earth family car. With over 2.8 million units produced between 1974 and 1993, the once-common people’s car has now become a collector’s and enthusiast’s favorite as it celebrates 50 years.
