"The VW runs nicely and has come through the years with flying colours, minor issues and repairs are present but that is part of the car's history."

Beschreibung

In November 1950, Arthur Samuelsson in Järnforsen collected his new Volkswagen, registration number H14526, from Be-Ge bil in Oskarshamn. He took great care of his car and maintained it well. Over the years, regular servicing has been carried out, including fender replacement and other work. The engine is original and runs nicely. The car was put away sometime in the late 1960s and removed from the vehicle register.

He remained a close friend with Göte Arvidsson of Järnforsen throughout the years, and when Arthur passed away, he wished for Göte to take over ownership in 2002. Göte started the car and registered it, after which the car was driven sparingly until his death in 2018, when his son Jonas inherited it. Since then, the VW has remained mostly in a garage and has only been started up occasionally.

Fakten zum Modell

Model year 1950 was an important step in the development of the Volkswagen Type 1, better known as the Volkswagen Beetle. After the early postwar years, the car evolved from a simple utility vehicle into a more refined and export-oriented model.

Production took place in Wolfsburg in West Germany, and the car was powered by an air-cooled four-cylinder boxer engine of 1.1 liters (1,131 cc) that developed approximately 25 hp. The engine was mounted at the rear and drove the rear wheels via a four-speed manual gearbox. The construction was simple, robust and easy to maintain, which became one of the Beetle's greatest strengths.

In 1950, several improvements were introduced, particularly on the Export model. Among the most important new features were:
Hydraulic brakes instead of cable-operated brakes.
Canvas roof became a factory option.
More chrome details, including on bumpers and hubcaps.
Higher equipment level with improved comfort.

The 1950 Beetle is recognized by its split rear window, a detail that is today highly sought after by collectors. The split rear window was used until 1953 before being replaced by an oval rear window.

During this period, exports increased rapidly and Volkswagen began establishing itself on the world market. The simple construction, reliability and low price meant that the Beetle soon became one of the world's most successful car models. Exports expanded rapidly during 1950, including to the USA, which laid the foundation for the model's international breakthrough.

Today, a 1950 Volkswagen Split Window is one of the most sought-after early Beetles. Well-preserved or correctly restored examples are rare and have a high collector value thanks to their historical significance and unique details.
