Oldsmobile Dynamic Serie 78 — 1948

• Zustand technisch

  The drivetrain is largely untouched. The engine can be a bit uneven right after startup but then feels strong and runs well, though it would still benefit from a thorough service. During my years of ownership, it has received regular light servicing (oil + filter) and new ignition parts at some point. A more comprehensive overhaul has constantly been planned, but everything has worked so well that it never happened.
  
  The engine leaks a little water from a drain cock on the block, which looks unfortunate but is actually an easy fix.
  
  The Hydramatic automatic gearbox received new fluid at the time of purchase. Since then, I have only checked the level, and it shifts smoothly and nicely.
  
  The shock absorbers leak a little, mainly the rear ones. I have topped up the oil every few years, and that has worked well. Otherwise, the undercarriage has light surface rust and traces of oil leakage here and there, but nothing alarming.
  
  At some point, the car received an undercoating treatment, but it has long since dried out and partially flaked off. Overall, the car looks a bit dull underneath but is sound and more or less untouched.
  
  Chassis lubrication has been performed practically every year. The car is free of play and rattles and feels reasonably stable on the road.
  
  A voluntary inspection was carried out around 10 years ago, passing without any remarks, but unfortunately it is not documented.
  
  The car is fitted with 7" wide chrome 15-inch American Racing Smoothie wheels in fine condition. The tires, Coker Classic L78-15 4" WW, were mounted approximately 10 years/2,000–3,000 km ago.
  
  The car also comes with the original wheels with trim rings and hubcaps in fine condition, with dry tires.
  
  Shortly after purchase, I replaced the right rocker panel trim and the stone guard at the front edge of the right rear fender with NOS parts, as they were scraped and scratched. I also replaced a couple of lamp lenses, some gaskets, and minor rubber trim. I also bought a trunk light on eBay since it was missing.
  
  In addition, I have imported two identical cars and taken some parts from them. Mostly small items, but also the corner pieces for the front bumper, which were in great condition on one of those cars and somewhat scratched on XLF.
  
  The brakes were overhauled a couple of years ago, and the car has barely been driven since. At that time, the master cylinder, all brake shoes, and the front and rear brake hoses were replaced, and the wheel cylinders were rebuilt.
  
  In the summer of 2023, a new Optima 6V battery was purchased. The cover that originally sat over the battery does not fit the new battery but comes with the car.

• Zustand Interieur

  The interior is original and is becoming dry and worn. There is a tear in the driver's seat, minor wear on the front door panels, and the seam on the top of the rear seat backrest has come apart. I have kept blankets on the seats all these years, and with them it has looked perfectly fine. In recent years, the rubber mat at the front around the pedals has also cracked and small pieces have come loose. The headliner is intact and in fine condition, and the steering wheel is in near-new condition. The weatherstripping in the doors etc. is generally in perfectly acceptable condition. All gauges work, though not the radio or the clock, and I have not investigated why. The wood-grain trim on the dashboard is damaged by leaking water in a couple of places. The windshield washer system is complete but not connected. All door handles and window regulators work perfectly both outside and inside. All locks are original and work well, and spare keys are included.
  
  The trunk is in good condition with the cardboard panels and the original mat intact. The original jack as well as the spare wheel holder and the special hubcap are also in place.

• Zustand Exterieur

  The car is largely in original condition but has been repainted in one of the two green shades it originally had. At that time, more metallic flake was also mixed into the paint. It is unclear when the car was repainted, probably at least 25–30 years ago.
  
  There is a minor rust spot at the rear edge of the left front fender. It was already there when I bought the car and has not gotten noticeably worse during my ownership.
  
  A few small rust bubbles have also appeared at the lower right of the trunk lid, but fundamentally the car's sheet metal is sound and unwelded as far as I know.
  
  The cover panel between the body and the rear bumper has at some point taken a knock, and the paint has cracked there. It sounds worse than it is and has not deteriorated during my 20+ years of ownership.
  
  The paint is not perfect but is of good quality and now needs a polish to bring back the shine. The chrome is generally really nice, though not perfect. There is very little surface rust in a few spots, which I have kept in check with polish on a regular basis.
  
  The top grille bar was dull at the time of purchase and has been rechromed here in Sweden. Above all, the cast chrome parts – for example the front fender trim, handles, and wiper towers – are in fine condition, and these are parts that are difficult to rechrome with good results.
  
  Some trim pieces are made of stainless steel and have also held up well.
  
  The car had no turn signals at the time of purchase, so I have added them. At the front, they are built into the bumper guards as original. At the rear, small turn signal bulbs are fitted in place of the reflectors in the taillights.
  
  They are not very visible in daylight and should be updated. However, they passed inspection.
  
  A master cutoff switch has been mounted on the firewall and can be reached from inside the car.

• Zustand gesamt

  The overall impression spells a kind of hard-wearing original condition with a handsome exterior, an untouched interior and, most of all, a cool unrestored, surface-rusted and coolant-dripping inline eight with a sound all of its own. If it ain't broken, don't fix it is a good truth in most cases, and so it is here.

General information about the condition of the vehicles .

• At this auction, many vehicles have been included in car collections and have been stored (mothballed) for a long time. For this reason, they are described from a collector's perspective and may need technical reviews and maintenance service - oil, battery replacement, new tires, brake review, etc. - before they can be used. .
• During the auction days information about a vehicle may be updated up to the day before the auction ends. When you bid at the end of the auction period - and also if you have made an earlier bid - we therefore ask you to read the descriptions carefully, in case something has been changed due to new information.

Important to know before placing your bids!

• Once you have called in an item and the reservation price is reached we want you to deposit the entire purchase amount into our client funds account before retrieval can take place.
• When you need to retrieve a called in object we want you to examine it carefully. If you consider that the item does not match our description you do not need to complete the purchase. In this case the deposited purchase sum and the entry fee are refunded.
• If you do not examine the item on the spot the call charge will be debited, but you do not have to complete the deal.
• If you make the entire purchase exclusively at a distance you have 14 days to cancel, but must return the item at your own expense.
• Your shipping costs and other costs are not reimbursed when the right of withdrawal is exercised. Swedish court applies.
• For items that have not been collected within 14 days storage costs may be charged.
