Extremely well-restored in every detail over a long period, as other projects took time and energy. However, when the owner decided to complete it, the result was overwhelmingly beautiful.

Beschreibung

The car was privately imported to Sweden in the late 1960s and registered here in October 1968. Some sources mention 1971, but the first registration certificate is from 1968. The current owner purchased the car in 1972 and began a detailed restoration that lasted until 2018 when the car was finally completed and inspected. In the "Owner's Comments" below, he shares more about the long restoration process, including its successes and setbacks. The most recent and final inspection was done on April 5, 2019.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

    The owner had a challenging journey getting the engine to run as it should, and that part of the restoration was actually completed long before the rest of the car. It runs well but can be a bit demanding to drive for those only accustomed to modern cars. Learning, listening, and feeling the car are good ambitions to keep in mind when driving it.

  • Zustand Interieur:

    The craftsmanship is beautiful throughout, and even the mechanical parts are a pleasure to admire for a while. The leather interior, soft top, and details all invite you to take your time absorbing the impressions.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

    A first-class paint job in two colors and a new soft top in canvas fabric. Beautiful original wire wheels with elegant spinners and newly manufactured Blockley vintage tires.

  • Zustand gesamt:

    It's evident that the car's completion is recent, and its finish is impressive. An exceptionally fine example of the 1930s small sports car ideal.

Kommentar vom Besitzer

Bilen importerades av en man i Vara i slutet på sextiotalet och det finns registreringsbevis från 1968, men nuvarande bilregister säger att den registrerades först den 18:e juni 1971 och att den nuvarande ägaren köpte vagnen 26:e september 1972. Det är i alla fall en av ett tjugotal bilar som finns i Sverige för närvarande, alla är importerade begagnade hit. Bilen var besiktigad och körbar men inte mycket mer. Motorn slamrade rejält och den var ganska slut i framvagnen och karossen hade även den sett sina bästa dagar så renoveringen startade ganska omgående. Bilen plockades ner helt, blästrades och målades. Årliga inköpsresor till MG:ns hemland gjordes under 70-talet när pundet var nere på runt 6:50. Motorn fick från England nygjutna kolvar och oljepumpen nya drev, SU-förgasarna renoverades med nya nålar och säten. Stålekerhjulen riktades hjälpligt och den hägrande chassieprovturen närmade sig. Provturen blev inte som förväntat för efter några minuters test uppstod ett skärande oljud från motorn. Ur med motorn igen och bort med vevaxeln så man fick ner kolvarna för att konstatera att kolvringsspåren inte var tillräckligt djupa vid värmeexpansionen. Motorn hade nya foder men gamla kolvar vid inköpet och de specialbeställda kolvarna från England fick slipas ner till rätt dimension av Sterner Blomqvist Motor i Malmö men där missade man att fördjupa kolvringsspåren. Efter detta går motorn som en dröm, men intressantare projekt tar vid i garaget och den blir stående. Flera försök att få den klar gjordes under de gångna decennierna, dock utan resultat, men 2018 hade undertecknad bestämt att inget annat fick komma emellan i garaget och visst blev den klar, trodde jag. Små provturer gjordes hemmavid och den kontrollbesiktigades, men så ämnade jag besöka en bilträff i Linköping och då skar oljepumpen efter 8 km. Vad som hände var att jag varit under bilen och dragit åt samtliga bultar för att stävja ofrivillig oljerevirutmärkning och då även den externt monterade oljepumpen som då blev för "trång" vid värmeexpansion. Till skillnad mot sjuttiotalet är det ju enkelt att skaffa delar idag via nätet, så nu är även detta åtgärdat och nu rullar den igen tills-vidare.

Fakten zum Modell

Cecil Kimber was employed at the Morris factory and started Morris Garages, where he modified and tuned Morris cars. The cars from Morris Garages became popular in hill climbs and endurance races, largely thanks to Kimber’s own successful participation behind the wheel. At the same time, MG cars were relatively affordable and sold in large numbers, particularly in the U.S. MG production expanded quickly, and in 1929, the company moved into a new factory in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, where MG Car Company produced cars until 1980.

In the beginning, many parts from Morris were used in production, including the Wolseley four-cylinder engine with 847 cc and 36 hp, which was equipped with an overhead cam (OHC), making it highly tunable—for better or worse. Additionally, the cars came with a 4-speed non-synchronized gearbox and mechanical brakes.

Between January 1934 and July 1935, 1,922 MG PAs were produced in three different versions: two-seater, four-seater open models, and a few rare closed Airline Coupés. According to the English MMM register, more than one-third of the production has survived to this day. Currently, around 20 examples are in Sweden, all of which were imported second-hand.
