This is one of the press and test drive cars used by Volvo when it was launched in the spring of 1961, with registration number OA27002 and chassis number 52. Today, the car is a car-historically significant complete renovation project with fascinating documentation.

"Really rusted and rough repainted, it's been in a barn since 1976. For Volvo aficionados and ditto collectors, this is a large, yet appealing and exciting renovation project."

Beschreibung

Various press events were conducted at the restaurant Fars Hatt at the fortress in Kungälv in 1961, when Volvo debuted the new sports car P1800 to an eager industry and prospective consumers. This car with chassis number 52 and registration number OA27002, was one of several cars used by Volvo for display and test drives even after the event at Father's Hat. Following that service, the cars were sold to dealers and then to eager consumers. Chassis number 52 was actively utilized for a few years before the current owner stored it in a barn in 1976 with the intention of renovating it. Due to other commitments, number 52 stayed in storage, and it is now being sold on behalf of an estate.
Chassis number 52, with registration numbers OA27002 and afterwards DNJ383 (the car is deregistered, and the number now belongs to a BMW), has thus not seen the light of day since 1976 until now.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

The car is obviously not started, and it comes with a couple of additional engines, a gearbox, manifolds, a carburetor, and some calipers. One of the engines has a model-specific oil cooler, but whether or not it is the original engine has not been proved. The engine number can be seen in the images. The engine in use lacks a dedicated oil cooler.

  • Zustand Interieur:

Original furnishings according to information, but worn and dirty.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

The original red color may be seen beneath the blue and body coat-like black paint. Otherwise, practically every part of the body is rusted.

  • Zustand gesamt:

A Jensen-built early P1800 with an important and intriguing provenance for the model in need of total restoration. Or possibly as an installation at a museum commemorating a big car industry historical event on a national scale.
