The car is well-serviced and runs very smoothly; everything works properly. However, third gear requires some getting used to in order to engage it seamlessly.

The original interior is in incredibly good condition, having been covered since new. It's a delightful combination of faux leather and fabric in a striking green shade.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

The paint is in good condition with only a few touch-ups and looks great. The chrome is well-preserved, and the car is fitted with period-correct Abarth wheels and new tires.

Fakten zum Modell

The car was introduced in 1969 and was the first front-wheel-drive model from Fiat, marking the beginning of a new era. The engine was transversely mounted, providing the car with spacious interiors relative to its size. Its design resembled the larger 124 and 125 models.

In 1971, a sporty coupe was released, named the Sport Coupe. By 1975, it was renamed the 128 3P.

A minor facelift was carried out in 1976, providing the 128 with rectangular headlights. A more significant update occurred in 1978, refreshing both the front and rear of the vehicle.

The model was available in three body types: station wagon, sedan, and sports coupe (hatchback), and with two engine options, a 1100 and a 1300.

In Sweden, the 1100 sedan, Rally, and station wagon, as well as the 1100 and 1300 coupe, were sold until 1975. New Swedish emissions standards introduced in 1975 meant only the updated 1300 special, combi special, and 1300 coupe, renamed the 128 3P, were imported. By 1978, the sedan and wagon versions had a new front and new taillights (sedan only) and were named the 1300CL. The model was sold in Sweden until 1980.

In the early 1970s, a variant of the sedan called the 128 Rally was available. Fiat imported 300 of them between 1972-74. It differed from the standard 128, equipped with a larger 1300 cc, 67 hp engine, a sportier suspension, and a dual-carburetor. Unfortunately, the standard exhaust manifold was retained, preventing the 128 Rally from being faster than the heavier 128 coupe. It sported a rev counter, oil temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge, and a sporty steering wheel. Externally, it had a black grille, four round taillights, and separate mounted (additional) lights, which served as real extra lights in Sweden. The car had an all-black vinyl interior, including the roof and floor. There was a switch for the external lights and a separate one for the dashboard lighting, offering a "Black panel" feature as SAAB later heavily promoted. The rear side windows could also be opened.

Teknikens Värld conducted a track test at Ring Knutstorp, and the 128 Rally was considered to have the best handling in the test group, which included the Audi 80 GT, Simca 1100 TI, Opel Ascona 19SR, and Ford Escort Mexico. Despite its name, it never became a rally car due to the lack of a 1300 cc class in Sweden. Today, the 128 Rally is rare and has become a collector's item for Fiat enthusiasts. An estimated 10 remain in Sweden.

During their prime, both the Fiat 128 and 127 were among the top ten best-selling cars in Sweden. Although their build quality and rust protection weren't the best, they weren't the worst either. However, they were often seen as inexpensive disposable products by their owners and were treated as such. They aren't particularly rare today, but a small percentage of the sold units remain.

The Fiat 128 was named Car of the Year in 1970.
