"A stylish grandfather's car that exudes authenticity and robustness. At some point, a careful review of the car has been undertaken. We believe that it has been partially repainted, and the convertible top and tires have been replaced. In essence, only routine maintenance and minor inspections are recommended. The car underwent inspection in 2003 and is now exempt from regular inspections. It's suitable for both museum displays and private collectors."

Beschreibung

The reason the car is labeled as "70" is because Chrysler guaranteed that the model was capable of reaching 70 mph, which is equivalent to just over 110 km/h.

We don't know much about the early history of this particular Chrysler. According to a sign, it was originally sold by Aktiebolaget Bäckdahl & C:o in Stockholm. The company was located at Birger Jarlsgatan 32, and according to the National Archives, the company was involved in selling automobiles and motorboats. The ownership plate indicates that the buyer was Jonas Danils in Malung. There's also a tax receipt from 1950 that provides a clue to the car's older history. In 2003, the car was re-registered in the vehicle registry. The previous owner shared the same, not entirely common last name as the first owner. This leads us to believe that the car may have been in the same family from 1927 until 2021 when the current owner took possession of the car. At some point over the years, the car underwent a review. It now has newly manufactured diagonal tires, and the convertible top has been replaced. The owner's manual is missing, but the original toolkit is included.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

Equipped with Chrysler's straight-six engine, a 3.6-liter inline-six side-valve engine with a claimed output of 68 hp, and a three-speed gearbox. It starts easily and sounds right. The engine runs quietly and smoothly. It functions well to drive without any anomalies. Operating this car requires having the right vintage car feel and being familiar with the specific gear shifting technique; if you have that, it works wonderfully. There is evidence of an older leak near the upper radiator hose/thermostat housing on the engine. See picture. However, this wasn't evident during our test drive. Replacing the hoses and thermostat gaskets seems like a sensible preventive measure.

  • Zustand Interieur:

Nice interior with attractive patina. The door panels appear to be original from 1927. As for the leather upholstery on the seats, we're not sure if it's original or from a later model. It's not entirely unlikely that the upholstery is what the car was delivered with. The doors have practical storage compartments. The driver's door is equipped with the original tool case. See picture.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

Very nice paintwork with some signs of wear. We believe the car has been repainted, but it was a long time ago. The hood has a few surface rust spots with touch-ups, and the shade of the hood is slightly different from the rest of the body. Taking everything into account, it suggests that the hood has its original paint while the rest has undergone an early repaint. The wooden-spoke wheels appear to have retained their original paint since the car was new. See the pictures. The convertible top is in excellent condition. Equipped with a foldable luggage rack.

  • Zustand gesamt:

A truly excellent overall package. This is a collector's car with style.

Fakten zum Modell

Chrysler chose to promote their new vehicles by using a designation for each model that indicated the top speed that model could achieve with a full load of passengers. In 1927, Chrysler's "50", "60", and "70" models achieved their respective speeds accurately. Traveling at 70 mph was considered quite fast for any vehicle in 1927 (equivalent to just over 110 km/h).

Consequently, the Chrysler Series 70 was considered the premium model. They had also worked on lowering the body height by using 18-inch wheels, lower springs, and a redesigned roofline. According to advertising, the Model 70 came in 12 different body styles.
