Beschreibung

Owned today by a Saab enthusiast in Åmål who owns several cars of the noble brand. He purchased the car in 2013 from the importer who inherited it from a relative in Switzerland. As far as we understand, the car had been within the same family in Switzerland since new. When it arrived in Sweden, it had driven approximately 180,000 km. The current mileage is 198,747 km, equivalent to 19,874 Swedish miles. We have determined that there were 4 owners within the same family, including the relative who imported the car to Sweden, and the current owner. Thus, a total of 5 owners.

The owner likes his car and bought it to keep it. He has acquired some spare parts for the future. Unfortunately, he neither has the time nor the space for the car. These spare parts do not need to be replaced immediately, but they are good to have. They are included in the trunk. See separate pictures.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

Runs very nicely in terms of engine and gearbox. It features a light-pressure turbo with a stated power of 141 horsepower. Inspected and approved for traffic until 2024-09-30.

  • Zustand Interieur:

Interior with minor signs of wear and tear. Looks good overall. The headliner is not as neat and needs attention. Refer to the pictures. All four original rubber mats are present and included separately.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

Nice green color that is not often seen on the 900. The clear coat has come off in some areas, including the hood, in the form of small round marks. Nothing major. There is a limited area where the clear coat is matte/worn on the driver's door. Otherwise, there are normal stone chips and paint wear. See the pictures. Equipped with 15-inch Saab accessory aluminum wheels. We have found a small rust damage near the spare wheel, see picture.

  • Zustand gesamt:

It gives a good overall impression. The car appears to be in good usable condition, which can be improved over time.

Fakten zum Modell

The first generation Saab 900 was sold between May 12, 1978, and 1994. When it was introduced, it bore significant similarities to the Saab 99 and was essentially a larger and more comfortable evolution of the 99, sharing the same B-engine. In the US market, several dealers had difficulty with the concept of it being new because of the striking resemblances to the old 99.

The marketing department noticed a declining interest in the Saab 99, and the economic resources required to develop an entirely new car were lacking. However, new American crash safety regulations and a cramped engine bay when the turbo was installed necessitated a new front end. The marketing department also saw an opportunity to scale up the model into a larger and more luxurious car in a segment where buyers were less price-sensitive than in lower price ranges.

The middle and rear sections were left almost untouched, but aside from interior changes, primarily the new and modern instrument panel, new windshield, and more efficient headlights in the new front end, the major changes included a 21 cm longer car (with 9 cm longer bumpers), 5.2 cm longer wheelbase, and 2 cm wider track than the Saab 99. Despite the larger body, the use of materials like aluminum instead of steel in certain details helped keep the weight down, resulting in the new car weighing only 20 kg more than its predecessor.

The front suspension design was kept almost intact but reinforced and fine-tuned with different wheel angles and more optimal placements of dampers and springs.

The Saab 900 continued the hatchback concept and was available in 3- and 5-door versions. A sedan model was introduced as the 1981 model year.

In 1986, the 900 range was expanded with the introduction of a convertible version manufactured in Nystad, Finland. The open car was a significant sales success, especially in the crucial US market. It was very cozy for an open car, setting a new trend and making it popular as a year-round vehicle. The front end and bumpers underwent a redesign for the 1987 model year. The Saab 900 is one of Saab's most well-known models of all time.

The first generation Saab 900 came as a sedan (2 doors from the 1984 model year and 4 doors from the 1981 model year), hatchback (3 or 5 doors), and convertible (2 doors, from the 1986 model year), with several engine options, all of which were two-liter four-cylinder gasoline engines, but with varying fuel delivery (carburetor/injection/turbo). Additionally, a 20 cm longer version of the four-door model, called the 900 CD, was produced from 1981 to 1986. Besides the increased space, this version was luxuriously appointed and only available with a turbocharged engine. Only about 500 units of the 900 CD were made.
