Beschreibung

The car was delivered to its first owner in Sweden in May 1965 and came equipped with spoked rims, overdrive, oil cooler, and radiator blind—features that were virtually essential for Swedish customers when the MGB was launched in the Swedish market. These are also the details that this item includes. It's more than a complete item with some new parts and an entire donor car. For someone with the knowledge, desire, and ambition, it is possible to create an example of the attractive MK1 model in the series, featuring the aluminum hood and the specific early details. The current owner, a respected and well-known enthusiast in the MG scene, has had the car for a while without being the formal owner but has now transferred the ownership to himself.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

The engine is seized on the Swedish car, in the donor car, it operates. The overdrive unit is reportedly in good working order.

  • Zustand Interieur:

Worn interior, but everything is available brand new. There are knowledgeable people in Sweden who service Smiths gauges if needed, and the capillary tube for the oil pressure and temperature gauge seems to be intact.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

Rust here and there, but the sheet metal on the donor car is better. Some panels are included, including a floor side. A set of extra older spoke wheels is also included."

  • Zustand gesamt:

If you're drawn to someday renovating a classic British sports car, an MGB is one of the better projects to tackle. There are plenty of parts, expertise, and support available both locally in Sweden and of course, in England. Even in Europe, where British suppliers maintain stock to ease transactions for customers post-Brexit.

Fakten zum Modell

In the late 50s, the project was initiated with the MGB as the successor to the MGA. In September 1962, the new roadster was unveiled and was well-received by both the automotive press and buyers. The engine, a 1798 cm3 with twin SU carburetors, provided impressive speed capabilities. The transmission was a four-speed, but for a modest additional cost, buyers could get an electric overdrive. Starting in 1965, the technology was enhanced with a five-bearing crankshaft, a standard oil cooler, and an electric tachometer. That year also saw the introduction of a stylish and practical three-door 2+2 coupe version, called the GT, in a contemporary semi-hatchback style designed by Pininfarina. This was to ensure that hunting, golf, and other sports and recreational equipment could fit in the sports car. Two years later, a six-cylinder engine was also fitted in the little car, with or without a roof. By the 1970 model year, the radiator was redesigned, and aluminum wheels from Rostyle were used instead of steel wheels. Spoke wheels, as always, could be ordered throughout the years.

Production of the MGB continued until 1981. Later variants were made and essentially, one could build a new car even today. Everything from newly manufactured bodies to large and small parts is available.
