Beschreibung

A 1950 Hudson Commodore 8 Coupe presented in a Twilight Gray/Gray Mist metallic paintwork that tastefully shifts along the car's waistline is the car to have in the beautiful world of Hudson's. It's the correct year model, equipment, engine, colour and interior fabric makes it one of the most sought after Hudson models.

The first owner was a World War II fighter pilot who was making his living on air shows in the fifties and sixties. He later unsurprisingly killed himself in a plane crash, the car was left standing, sold, remained standing, and was bought in 1984 from a death estate by a Swede in LA and shipped to Sweden. Here it remained standing again until the current owner in 2004 finally became the one who made it happen and eventually started with the car's long-awaited and deserved restoration. It was completed in 2010 and has since then been driven around 1000 km mainly to exhibitions and meetings.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

The inline eight and its manual gearbox with an electric overdrive has a lovely symmetric feel to it.

  • Zustand Interieur:

Fabric woven to original spec. Tasteful, beautiful and somewhat restrained in a non-American way.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

Simply gorgeous two-tone metallic paintwork that really shows itself when the sunlight hits the car.

  • Zustand gesamt:

Overall a very sought after and fantastic car with an interesting history. The model year 1950 was the only one to have the small rear window and that special front.

Fakten zum Modell

Hudson was innovative and progessive when the new Hornet arrived in 1948 as the first American car with a self-supporting body. Furthermore, it had the Panahard bracket on the rear axle, anti-roll bar and ... instead of rubber bushings in the suspension it had so called trapetz thread, two threaded fastening points in each other that required a lot of grease but was on the other hand very solid with minimal movements, important qualities on a race car. The inlie six- and eight-cylinder side valve engines were really the weakest links in the chain.
Commodore was the highest level of equipment, just above the Hornet which was the more well-known in the racing context.

The character / car Doc Hudson's three Piston Cup trophies in the animated movie "Cars" have a truth in itselves as Hudson in reality dominated NASCAR 1951-54 thanks to that self-supporting body, low center of gravity, good aerodynamics and a more developed suspension than its competitors. In 1951 -52 and -53, Hudson won 23 of 26 races. One can only imagine the scriptwriter's loyalty and fascination to the Hudson brand that died at the constellation of AMC, the American Motor Company. In addition, in the second movie, all AMC cars are on the bad and ugly side.
